Bearing Drift Comment Policy
By Bearing Drift | Friday, February 3rd, 2012 | Catch-AllBearing Drift is a leading provider of conservative news, commentary and analysis in digital, radio and print formats in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We welcome feedback from our readers and listeners and encourage them to respond to our news, commentary and analysis on our website.
As an organization, we strive to ensure that all discussion and debate in the comments on our articles is open and all opinions are welcomed, no matter how much we may disagree with those opinions. We view over-moderation of comments or the inappropriate moderation of comments as antithetical to the purpose of our website – to encourage frank and open discussion of the issues of the day and to contribute to conservative thought in Virginia and nationwide. While we reserve the right to moderate comments, we will do so only in extraordinary circumstances, as the censorship of comments necessarily chills the free expression of opinion and debate. Those who disagree with the content of a comment or who otherwise believe the content violates our policy are encouraged to voice those disagreements in the comment section themselves.
The decision to moderate comments will be made by the Board of Directors of Virginia Line Media LLC, Bearing Drift’s parent company, or in an extraordinary situation, by the Editor-in-Chief. Factors that the Board will take into account in determining whether to moderate a comment will include comments that infringe upon or violate the copyrights, trademarks or other intellectual property rights of any person; are defamatory under Virginia law; are obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit; advocate illegal or violent acts; contain advertising or solicitations not approved by the Board; or otherwise violate any other local, state or federal law.
Bearing Drift is not responsible for the content submitted to the website via comments. Responsibility for comments rests with the commenter alone. Bearing Drift has the right, but not the obligation, to monitor comments and remove content that we feel meets the above criteria. We also reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to ban users for continued violations of the comment policy. Our decision to not moderate a comment does not imply agreement with or our endorsement of the comment. It simply means we do not feel that the comment has violated our policy and we will always err on the side of free debate.
We also will probably delete any comments made by individuals who like Newt Gingrich. They’re just stupid.
Any comments made on the Bearing Drift site become the property of Bearing Drift, and we reserve the right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, incorporate into other works, distribute, perform, display, and otherwise exploit such content, in whole or in part in any form, media or technology now known or later developed.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this endorsement policy, feel free to contact Bearing Drift General Counsel Brian Schoeneman at brian.schoeneman@bearingdrift.com or J.R. Hoeft at jim.hoeft@bearingdrift.com.

Reading through the legalese until the last couple paragraphs was worth it. Like getting rewarded with more funny stuff for sitting thru the end credits.
(Thanks for clarifying this though, a serious topic given recent comments.)
So, it looks as though PIPA and SOPA is being implemented in soft law, just as Agenda 21. It appears the antithesis to the First Amendment is intellectual property…the synthesis is suppressed speech.
Does this mean when Mike Barrett spouts his genuis economic theory that it becomes intellectual property of Bearing Drift? Seems like the freedom of speech is about to be taken down! In the name of protecting Intellectual Property.
It seems like this is a trend, what caused you guys to address this stance? Are you trying to follow in the steps of Mark Zuckerburg? Is this part of his 1,000 new millionaires?
Sorry, I was mistaken…it’s Google not Facebook.
John, the point is simple: if you post something here, you’re giving us the right to use what you wrote.
So if you’re planning on writing the great American novel, don’t put it on our comments.
This is a standard style policy that most blogs and mainstream media outlets that accept comments have in place. Nothing sinister about it.
Brian: Right I know you guys are pimping a sitcom based on JJ and Turbo’s comments.
It’s going to be called “Sh@t the Guy in the Tinfoil Hat Says.”
“We also will probably delete any comments made by individuals who like Newt Gingrich. They’re just stupid.”
BD just keeps getting better.
Brian,
Isn’t referencing part of English 101? When things become public, can they not be used? I’m lost with the latest trend in this protecting of Intellectual Property, we’ve seen an increase on Youtube, Google has sorta changed their’s and the Bearing Drift.
No one said anything sinister, just curious of what action caused the trend of motions to happen?
Steve, who pulled your string? BTW, It seems you’re on here quite a bit for someone who writes articles. Mmmm. Maybe it was one of your articles that caused this?
Steve, go ahead to your meeting, I believe your master is calling.
John, it’s not a new trend. Like I said, it’s pretty standard. And with the proliferation of online media, people don’t want their stuff stolen.
We’ve had an unwritten comment policy for a while, but since we’ve gotten larger and we’re trying to run things a little more efficiently, we wanted to create a policy that folks could reference and was transparent.
We have had a couple of posts lately where folks questioned comments made and wanted them removed. We wanted to be able to provide those folks in the future with a written policy.
The IP stuff was secondary to the point that we only moderate comments in extraordinary circumstances.
Brian,
That makes sense, I was just curious if FCC was playing with SOPA/PIPA like the EPA is still pushing the environmental issues.
Thanks for answering my curiosity.
it’s not the comment it’s who censors the comment
Thanks for not banning the Ron Paul-faithful.
I love the Newt joke. But what are you guys going to do if Newt somehow pulls off an upset and ends up being nominated? Yeah, I know, it was only a joke, and he really is a fine fellow.
I take it that you guys now agree with me that Mitt is going to be the candidate selected. Remember, I called it first here on Bearing Drift after the Iowa results (although those results turned out to be in error).
I still think there is potential for an upset. My small bet against the odds is that if Romney really is that unacceptable to enough voters, they could still coalesce behind Santorum and pull off an upset of monumental proportions. At this point, the chances of this happening are becoming slimmer with each passing primary, but it is still within the realm of possibility.
As for Newt, heck, even Donald Trump didn’t endorse him.
At this point, Obama could endorse Newt.. Might make a difference..
LOL this was GREAT!!! Romney ALL THE WAY!! #Mitt2012
Here’s a thought– maybe our nation is having problems because those that don’t believe in God are pretending to be gods and forcing their views on us and the children.
Seems most presidents, senators, and people testifying to the truth in court put there hand on a Book that can’t be taught in school. Yet we expect this generation to solve middle east problems by being Biblically illiterate!! Crazy educational insanity!
Who’s Newt?
