Janet Howell Wants Government In Your Butt
By Shaun Kenney | Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 | Politics, VirginiaTo protest a bill that would require women to undergo an ultrasound before having an abortion, Virginia State Sen. Janet Howell (D-Fairfax) on Monday attached an amendment that would require men to have a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before obtaining a prescription for erectile dysfunction medication.
“We need some gender equity here,” she told HuffPost. “The Virginia senate is about to pass a bill that will require a woman to have totally unnecessary medical procedure at their cost and inconvenience. If we’re going to do that to women, why not do that to men?”
So an ultrasound — a perfectly healthy and non-invasive procedure to perform before killing another human being an abortion — is the equivalent of anally violating a grown man?
Janet Howell lives in a very interesting world.

Not a world I want to live in. But then, again, I don’t need pills.
I would attach an amendment requiring the rectal could
Only be performed by former beauty queens under the age
Of 35. It makes as much sense as JHs amendment.
Great joke, Janet! I love it.
Has nothing to do with abortion, but funny
and pointed in the right direction.
Look at who has responded here. Two males!
Shaun, One of the few pieces I agree with you on.
JR, It is the world you live in.
We have to truly look at the political discourse here. Janet Reno is going to make abortion a sexist issue. This is about as self-centered as can be.
…and then again, she is pandering to sexist like Mormor. Guess the days of civil discussions are over.
Waiting on the next eminent domain post so I can make my comment.
And our party is obsessed with being in our bedrooms…what is the difference?
Ultrasounds are unnecessary and will be nothing but a waste of time and money on an already strained healthcare system.
The only people who say “ultrasounds are unnecessary” is the abortion industry. They’re making money — this cuts into the profit margin… provided they actually do the ultrasound correctly…
A digital rectal exam might go a long way towards explaining the thought processes of most of Virginia’s Republican legislators. Their heads are obviously in that part of the body
That obviously isn’t the case as I have nothing to do with the abortion industry.
This is and will continue to be viewed as nothing but bullying tactic. This legislation will not play well to voters of my generation who are more and more liberal on social issues and feel that government needs to butt out.
Shaun – apparently you are ignorant about the INVASIVE nature of ultrasounds done in the early stages of pregnancy. Explain to us why the state-mandated rape probe is ok when it’s done to a woman, but suddenly becomes “violating” when done to a man. You can’t because you are incapable of grasping the notion that a woman would want sovereignty over her own privates.
Next time your doc performs a rectal exam bear in mind that afterwards, in Arkansas anyway, you’re legally married.
Does Janet Howell or the RPV know anything about economics, or about how to get the economy moving again?
Nope.
So how do they try to “differentiate” themselves?
Social issues.
What a disgusting spectacle, but one that is sure to remain effective with a certain, albeit shrinking subset of the population.
“We’re still relevant! We’re still relevant!”
It says a lot about Virginia Democrats that they think this was a “brilliant move” on their part.
Ridiculous.
Greatest headline ever.
Jumping Jack – I totally agree. Maybe I’m immature but I don’t care.

While it is obvious that Janet Howell is playing gender politics with this proposal, the proposition is not necessarily bad. Any man over 40 should have a stress EKG and regular prostate exams. I had a colleague who was a serious jogger, typically running three-five miles a day. He had a stress EKG and a week later he had a triple by-pass. His heart was a ticking bomb just waiting to explode.
If this is the price of admission for getting hard disc pills, it could save lives. BTW, would any responsible doctor prescribe ED drugs without a complete physical exam?
So an ultrasound is “necessary” prior to abortion?
What for?

Don’t be so smug, Jim. Just wait until you are in your 60′s and have a second wife that you are trying to keep happy.
Hilarious. PWND.
The scary thing is that Michelle’s shopping sprees have been Barry’s only strategy to invigorate the economy.
Michelle Obama has risked the wrath of cash-strapped Americans by indulging in a $50,000 shopping spree at Agent Provocateur.
Agent Provocateur, which is styled on vintage Hollywood glamour, sells handmade Calais lace corsets that sell for up to £900, which could ruffle the feathers of more than just President Obama in an election year.

Oh, that’s just too rich. I could really say something here. But I won’t.
A lovely title. But, it does make an important point to show the absurdity of some political leaders, like Senator Howell. Can’t someone defeat her or is her district drawn up in such a way to make such an idea an impossibility?
@Old-geezer That article was retracted due to it being 100% fabricated.
@Scott S they require them because they “provide more information” which technically they do, but the purpose is to shame and punish the pregnant women and hopefully guilt her into changing her mind about the procedure.
