Free lunches and the future of Bearing Drift
By Norman Leahy | Monday, January 16th, 2012 | Catch-AllSo I was reading this piece in the Pilot about how even the “free” world of blogs and online media isn’t really free. Mike Gruss quotes our very own Jim Hoeft on the topic of our fundraising drive:
“What we are trying to accomplish costs money,” Hoeft said. “We take it very seriously.
“If you want this level of content, someone has to pay for it. It’s as simple as that. Folks don’t even think twice about buying a Big Mac. Why is information any different?”
Maybe our secret sauce (AKA leaving the mayonnaise out in the sun) isn’t quite as yummy. But in the very same article, we also read this:
[Norfolk-based] AltDaily’s annual budget tops $100,000 and includes salaries for three staff members.
So let me get this straight…a crunchy/lefty hang out at the gallery and see stuff site is running the taps open at $100k a year — and in the midst of a $50K fundraising drive — while Bearing Drift, our well-regarded, high-traffic site that is the go-to resource for conservatives, is still $2700 short of our modest $7,000 fundraising target?
Yup.

If you’ve already given to the campaign, please accept my thanks. Your generosity is sincerely appreciated.
For those who haven’t…the time for soft pitches is over. Go to the PayPal link. Click on it. Fill in the required credit card information, including the dollar amount. Then hit submit.
It’s that easy.

This is a useful page if I want to send Bearing Drift a “Care Package”…..I am putting one together. Hopefully should bring a smile to someone’s face….
Watched three bald eagles go thru the spring mating ritual on my property yesterday. The two males were on the ground, discussing the situation. Big raptors.. Would guess that there will be a least one nesting pair raising young in the City of Hampton in the next few months.
Spain…. I have a headache. What to do ?? If you read zero hedge, you understand..
Every 11 years or so the magnetic poles of the sun will switch.. This time may be different. Sun may end up with four magnetic poles.. That has some interesting implications..
