David McCormick is Not Happy With the AP…
By Shaun Kenney | Tuesday, December 6th, 2011 | VirginiaFrom his release this afternoon blasting the upcoming Kaine-Allen debate:
“The Associated Press’ primary responsibility is disseminate “accurate, balanced, and informed” news to the public, however this debate runs contrary to all of these principles. If the same criteria used to determine participants in this debate had been applied at the Presidential debates, current republican front-runner Newt Gingrich would have never stepped on stage. By excluding candidates from this debate, the Associated Press has usurped the power and rights of voters to determine the candidates. The Associated Press has limited the discussion to the talking-points of the two major parties, preventing any fresh solutions from reaching the public. Virginia voters deserve to be informed about all U.S. Senate candidates and their specific solutions to address the nation’s problems.
Supposedly the protest outside the AP debate promised by the Tea Party is still on. Occupiers have not mentioned any plans to protest Kaine, nor have any of the other Democratic candidates made mention of the debate so far.
Wouldn’t it have been fun to have the also-rans do a debate the same night, same time, even in the same city (Richmond) and put all of them up there at once? Just duke it out… and I’m sure someone would have covered it.
Ah well. Missed opportunitites…

Mr. McCormick is right to be upset with the AP. This tactic used by the press of picking candidates has been used against Gary Johnson in the Republican Presidential process this year in much the same way it was used against Ron Paul back in 2007/2008.
Now I know the Allen supporters will likely shrug their shoulders and say “who cares?” “As long as my candidate benefits then why should I worry about it?” But imagine if Allen was excluded and McCormick, Radtke, Jackson, or Donner got the spot instead. Why, you would never hear the end of the outrage. They would say that the liberal media is unfairly picking our candidate!
The simple fact, shown through these examples, is that there are some in the media who are trying to decide the elections instead of the voters.
We cannot merely stand for principle only when it is to our advantage, for if we do we have no legitimate argument to the contrary when circumstances don’t favor our position or candidates.
Bottom line? This debate is a sham.
David McCormick doesn’t have a chance in Hell to be the GOP nominee, but he’s absolutely right about this. It’s the AP’s job to cover the process, not to dictate the process.

It was discussed and rejected. You're late to the party with this "insight".
Any reason why the Democratic candidates are so quiet about this?
@VA Fair-Weather “Patriot” –
IP tracking is a bitch, ain’t it?
Besides… just goes to show how ridiculous the fair-weather patriots really are. Can’t stand the heat, so they complain about what’s being cooked in the kitchen.
Cheers!
Shaun- re: Dem candidates. Probably because they are even more hopeless longshots than the other GOP candidates aside from Allen?
There’s one with about $527K in the bank — more than all the GOP challengers vs. Allen combined. Not too shabby…
Democrat Julien Modica filed suit in the U.S. District Court of Alexandria asking that the restrictions be lifted but the case was dismissed.
