Twitter and post to FB pages etc. Get this poll out there folks.
Once again the Tea Partiers hijack a BD poll as if it means anything at all. It is sad to see them struggling so hard to try to look relevant…so that they can then crown themselves kingmakers.
Rocky, as of my voting there are a mere 68 total votes. I’m pretty certain no one has had time to “hijack” anything just yet. Find another lousy excuse for your preferred candidate losing.
Hah ha ha, oh boy… Here we go.
Chris,
In previous BD polls, Jamie Radkte out-polled George Allen by at least a 50% margin. And yet, she has never broken through 10% in scientific polling. Explain please.
Well, it sounds to me like George Allen is doing a lot better of a job with his campaign and probably has more cash to burn to reach voters. I think that’s a very good explanation.
If you want to discuss scientific polling, Public Policy Polling did one a while back regarding this very situation (though it was hypothetical at the time). Ken Cuccinelli beats Bill Bolling 45% to 21%. If that kind of margin isn’t concrete, I’m not sure what is…
Hisroc, tp conservatives for the most part support Cooch no doubt but what is causing you to state that tp is hijacking the poll?
Face it folks — Ken is the future of conservatism in America, and the time is now!
I would like to see Ken as gov, but I would like to see him in the US Senate even more.
As I see it, since Allen was such a good governor (sic), how about Allen for governor 2013, Bolling for us senate 2014 and Cooch for LTgov?
George Allen uses the same rhetoric as he did 20 years ago when he was a young gun. Now he is an Old Bull and the rhetoric no longer resonates with the voters. Bill Bolling is a much more consistent conservative than Allen but he and his delivery are dated. The southern Virginia accent is detrimental to some voters.
In the current political and economic environment Cuccinelli is the future. Also Cuccinelli has that Reaganesque ability to present a principled position with out ticking off those that disagree with him.
Turbo,
What makes me think that the TP is hijacking this poll? Oh, I don’t know. Could it be this:

I don’t know anything about politics except that I’m tired of getting the same old people elected. Recently a total stranger said something that made sense. The problem with the Tea Party (at least here in VA) is that they don’t put their money where their mouth is. I have nothing against the Tea Party beliefs, even though I am not a member. However, I do know it takes money to be a winning candidate at any stage in politics. Jamie might win online polls but does she have the money to take her through the primary against an Establishment candidate and the others? I like her, but the bottom line for her now and will be for Cuccinelli is going to be MONEY…BIG MONEY. I think Cooch will get it but he will still have to fight the Establishment and their middle-of-the-road supporters. Voters often say the support someone, but vote for whoever they think will win…something about later saying they voted for the winner is more important to them than voting for the person they really believe is the best candidate.
You heard it here. Bearing Drift polls mean nothing.
I not sure that the Tea Party has hijacked anything. I am with them completely, yet I’m not following any orders to support Ken. I’ve know him for almost ten years and find him to be the real deal. Bill is pretty much also, but is more likely to play ball as seen when he agreed to let McDonnell have top spot last time around rather than give the voters a choice to select the candidate. We have seen many times that Ken is more concerned with principle than keeping party insider happy… and they just don’t like it! But I do!
Please do not run for Senate, Mr. George “macca” Allen. You will be villified in the media as an insensitive racist, again, adding to the media smear on the Republican party label. Why can’t McDonnell or Cuccinelli go for the Senate. Oh, Mr. Allen please get out of their way and go off into retirement land. Please. For me…
George Allen was an excellent Senator and if the voters look at his accomplishments as opposed to Citizen Kaine’s failures he will win.
Ken Cuccinelli is the best man for the job of Governor. He’s an activist and not passive. Mr. Bolling is a good man and is a great number 2 man. Ken is nobody’s number 2 man.
We live in difficult times, Newt Gingrich has a Contract with America and Barack Obama has a contract ON America. We need fighters at every level.
The problem here isn’t whether or not Cuccinelli is a good candidate worthy of support. HE IS! And, of course, he has the right to run. But it would be better if the party worked these things out and avoided what will undoubtedly become a bitter battle between two VERY good candidates. And I don’t mean to say that contested primaries are NEVER good. I see an ugly battle ahead that would be best engaged with the real enemy, the DEMOCRATS. I support Bill Bolling in the race for Governor. I support Ken Cuccinelli for reelection to Attorney General or even to run for United States Senate against Mark Warner.

Bruce, and if my grandmother had balls she would be my grandfather. Allen loves the poor and helps the monied interests who support him. More politics as usual is what you want? The man is measuring for drapes while laughing at us.
We share common ground on Ken but the contrast between Cooch and Allen is stark.. its like comparing chicken salad to chicken shit..
“George Allen was an excellent Senator and if the voters look at his accomplishments”… like raising the debt ceiling 4x, adding $3.1T to the national debt and voting for the clinton-feinstein gun ban. Yep, quite the accomplishments. He should be SO proud. SMH
Bolling really should have run last time. He would have been a better gov. However he chose to go with the good ole boy establishment. I think he missed his chance. Cooch has been outstanding as AG and has a great pro-freedom record from his time in the senate. Bolling has a good record but not as good as Cooch and can be too easily tied to the establishment. The choice is pretty clear.
Mike,
Exactly how much influence does a freshman senator have on issues such as raising the debt limit? As for voting for the “Clinton Feinstein gun ban,” I assume that you are referring to the extension of the assault rifle ban. Was Allen supposed to vote against his own party and President who supported the extension? Allen’s vote was a principled one, IMHO. As a life-long (so far) gun owner, concealed carry permit holder for almost two decades, and retired military officer, I see no reason for civilians to own weapons that are designed purely for military purposes. The only function of an AK-47 is to hose down a playground at McDonalds, the incident that led to the original passage of the ban, or to shoot at the White House residence windows like that moron did a couple of weeks ago. The NRA/GOA position of “no restrictions, no where, no way” is inoperable. None of the Bill of Rights liberties are absolute or without reasonable restrictions. Taking an unreasonable hardline on weapons such as assault rifles only strengthens the gun-grabbers emotional argument that supporters of the Second Amendment should be dismissed as a bunch of gun nuts.
I want members of Congress who will vote each issue as a matter of conscience and common sense, not members who will pledge their positions unalterably to get elected and then refuse to consider debate and compromise. That is the classic definition of democratic republicanism.
Rocky’s crusade against AK-47s is beginning to sound like Grover Norquist’s crusade against taxes.
Outlaw ak47′s and only outlaws will have them.. arguable more of them.
Outlaw nuclear weapons and only outlaws will have them. Cease all sanctions on North Korea and Iran, Turbo?
It’s sad to see anyone support people like Bolling that is a tarnished view of the Republican Creed. The Tea Party is not hijacking anything, they are simply trying to right the ship after it has gone so wrong. Please don’t look at who can beat who, please look at the contrast of who is RIGHT and who is wrong. Let the chips fall where they may at that point.
Well said, Matt. That is the thinking that got Virginia Governor Tim Kaine. By God, Kilgore couldn’t win, but he was RIGHT! Did that make your feel better?
Kilgore was awful. He was never supported by the conservative movement. I wouldn’t touch him with a 10 foot pole…

Matt,
Kilgore was never supported by the conservative movement? I must have been stuck in an alternative universe in 2005. I remember him being endorsed by everyone from the NRA to the Mooney Times. The Washington Post hated him. Here’s the Times endorsement:

Mike, your comments about the assault weapons ban indicate with 100% certainty that you have NO IDEA what you’re talking about. The specific provisions of the assault weapons ban had ZERO to with “hosing down a playground at McDonalds.” A bayonet lug and flash hider sure do lead to a rampage, huh? Please, get informed…I’m embarrassed for you.
Its funny how the comment thread is drawn away from the original story, but I am glad BD ran the Cooch v. Bolling poll. I think it is a very interesting race. One in which I support Ken, as if anyone cares what I think. Bolling’s childish and self-absorbed response to Ken’s announcement tells me I am right in supporting Ken, as do the records of the two men.
