Bolling comments on his new-found responsibility in the Senate
By JR Hoeft | Wednesday, November 9th, 2011 | Policy, Politics, VirginiaLt. Gov. Bill Bolling, who will be the tie-breaking vote in the state Senate, and GOP gubernatorial aspirant in 2013, comments on his responsibility:
“Needless to say, I am delighted that Republicans have regained a working majority in the Senate of Virginia. With the chamber equally divided at 20-20, it will fall on me to cast the deciding vote on many important issues in the months to come. I assure you that I will do so with the utmost respect for the responsibility given me by the Constitution of Virginia.
“Today, Virginians signaled their approval of the McDonnell/Bolling administration’s common sense, results oriented leadership. Virginia has closed historic budget shortfalls by cutting spending, defeating tax increases and reforming state government. We have invested wisely in core functions of government, including transportation, higher education and economic development, which has created the environment for Virginia’s private sector employers to create new jobs and provided a blueprint to lead the country to economic recovery.
….
“When Virginians went to the ballot box today they understood the importance of giving us the team and leadership structure needed to continue to implement our vision for the future of Virginia. This is a responsibility that we do not take lightly. Governor McDonnell and I will remain focused on fiscal responsibility, budgetary restraint, reforming government and providing economic opportunity for all Virginia families.”

I better not hear the words “power sharing” out of any Republicans mouth.
Chris,
Then you had better make damned sure that the Republicans win the Lt. Governor race in 2013. What goes around comes around, esp. in politics. I would be the first to admit that the Democrats’ behavior in the last Senate was deplorable. But there is no guarantee that the Republicans will keep the tie-breaker, or even the 20-20 split until the gerrymandered Senate districts are fixed.
Bolling’s comments reveal his lack of comprehension. Invest in transportation? You mean borrow to the hilt. Invest in higher education? You mean raise tuition so our children will need to go to community college instead? Invest in Economic Development? You mean lay off 15,000 state and local workers who had jobs but don’t anymore?
Further, the continued boasting about many economic development projects that came to fruition this year but were created by local and regional entities speaks volumes about lack of putting the credit where it belongs.
The hyperbole of this administration is astounding and I must admit their spin machine gets an A+ for endless press releases that exaggerate if not mislead.
Mikey!
You’re still with us! J.R. and I were speculating that you might be in a coma in the nearest cardiac ward after last night.
Tell me, is it true that you are really a paid BD contributor whose sole purpose is to drive hits on the blog? ‘Cause your comments are far too fricken stupid to be coming from a real person.
Thanks Rocky; it is great to know I have been missed. But instead of personal insults, why not respond to my interpretation of Bolling’s boasts point by point? Or is it simply true these days that to be a republican in this state, you have to be in a continual state of denial.
As I am mentioning on the other threads, the democratic garble is nonsense and we are being trained to ignore it, so don’t bother. Yeah yeah, we hear that about hoping the next Lt Gov is a Republican, but we worry about that then and it is likely one of the democrats will die or be indicted for something before then anyway. If a Republican dies or something, those districts are so packed that a fool with -R could win, but they are packed because the democrats did not want to distribute the R vote to other districts.
In any case, no parity or deals this time. If the dems get Lt. Gov. or something bad like that, we will deal with that then. In addition, the Republicans have the House of Delegates as ultimate insurance against dem nonsense, so there is no worry of rampant liberal legislation. The problem will be the democrats trying to filibuster the other redistricting and attempting to put that issue to the courts or a commission due to their efforts to keep the issue from being voted on.
We all know the stupid democrat tricks. Ewe can’t fool us. If ewe get back the majority sometime, then ewe can enjoy it then, but for now just understand that we know in advance all your stupid arguments and they will not work.
Well Bill, thanks for sowing the seeds of your demise. Most of us, just citizens, are not really partisan; we want a Commonwealth that works. Frankly, while you and the Lt. Governor boast of your accomplishments, many of us decry your actions to increase tuition, increase tolls to a prohibitive level, cut local government, borrow to the hilt, and continue the dismantling of our transportation system.
Now of course, you label that as liberal jibberish. Fine, arrogance of purpose will not serve you well in the long run. Once you are fully in charge, the buck stops with you. Intelligent leaders understand that they represent all their constituents, not just those in their party. Apparently, you don’t.
I think the GOP is right that Bolling can vote on organizational issues. Now, just admit you were wrong in 1996 when you argued it the other way.
