Didn’t They Do This To Clarence Thomas?
By Shaun Kenney | Sunday, October 30th, 2011 | PoliticsHerman Cain was jailed convicted punished for accused of sexually harassing accused of making inappropriate comments towards two young ladies back in the early 1990s. The POLITICO is there:
The women complained of sexually suggestive behavior by Cain that made them angry and uncomfortable, the sources said, and they signed agreements with the restaurant group that gave them financial payouts to leave the association. The agreements also included language that bars the women from talking about their departures.
In a series of comments over the past 10 days, Cain and his campaign repeatedly declined to respond directly about whether he ever faced allegations of sexual harassment at the restaurant association. They have also declined to address questions about specific reporting confirming that there were financial settlements in two cases in which women leveled complaints.
Who exactly is peddling this crap? Anyone want to guess the number of liberal commentators who will denounce this racist (and it is indeed racist) attack on Herman Cain?
…you’ll count it on one hand, to be sure.
You gotta wonder why the liberals spend so much time focusing on stereotypes… and then destroying those who violate their stereotypical molds.
How long before we see Palin-Cain jokes, eh? Give ‘em about a day or so… they’re comin’.

Folks better strap on helmets or something because the Dems are scared and they will do just about anything that enters their little third world tinpot minds. We are a year out. Let’s all guess what it will be like Oct 2012.
Damned right, Shaun. Just look at all those unfounded sexism attacks that they made on John Edwards!
Oops. Never mind.
See, negative politics by the press is ok.
The press complains when candidates do it, but when the press does it, it’s just good honest reporting….
I will predict right here that Cain will handle this right and come out of his corner like a champ. The left will try their best to land a punch on whoever is leading in the polls be it Mitt, Hermy, RP, Newt, Rick or whoever.. So far Politico has quoted anonymous sources unwilling to go public for fear of??
This is the type of opportunity to differentiate himself from typical politicians that money can’t buy and clear the air like a non politician. Besides that, the left is paranoid that a confident black man could take on their socialist half black/white guy.
Aren’t the white guys at Politico the left’s KKK who are just trying to “lynch” another conservative black guy? We can probably guess what kind of costumes they are wearing for Halloween.
Shaun and Tim: This almost certainly comes to the Politico from a Republican source. (The Politico has better Republican sources than Democratic sources for one thing. If this was coming from the left it would have broken in the Washington Post or the New York Times).
His GOP opponents are the ones doing op-research on Herman Cain right now. The Dems aren’t because a: they don’t believe he can get the nomination and b: they don’t think he’s much of a threat if he does.
By the professionalism with which this was leaked, likely came from the Romney, or maybe the Gingrich, camp. Neither Perry or Bachmann’s campaigns have shown the ability to do anything this smooth.
Romney and newt have no harm pacts with Cain.. this is of course unspoken.. I am betting Perry if any foul play at all..
Why wouldn’t OFA or Obama be the source for this, again? I am almost certain that the MO of this attack is right out of the Democratic playbook… it just doesn’t have the feel of a GOP attack.
In fact, I’d wager that if Romney’s camp did this, they would have lead with their front foot and shored up their support with women voters.
This screams Democratic hit job… precisely because there is no “winner” from this story on the GOP bench.
Shaun, I know you’re wired to blame everything on the Dems. But in this case, that just doesn’t make sense. And, there would be “winners” among the field if Cain, this month’s flavor of the month, was knocked back into the pack. That would benefit, Perry, Bachmann, Gingrich…nothing could help Santorum or Huntsman. Romney it might not help…he might be pretty good with the idea of Cain ending up as the “not Romney” candidate rather than Perry.
Steve I think Herman Cain has proved himself to be alot more than the flavor of the month.
Politico: “We aren’t going to go into details of what happened, but Cain has to explain these charges that he was cleared of.” In other words, no names, no witnesses, no details, no evidence but “Herman Cain, you had better explain these charges and if you deny them, your guilty.” So, for harassment allegations, their default strategy is to go after a conservative based on someone who knows someone who knew someone who worked for someone who said something to a distant relative who thought they saw something and who now lives in a sewer somewhere. For the same allegations against a liberal, they first go after the women until the facts, evidence and arrogance start getting in the way of the spin.
Politico has produced the rope for “high tech lynching” that Cain has predicted and the rest of the mainstream media has found a “tree”. And now the question… who… Romney, Perry, Obama, or one of their surrogates in the media… is going to try to kick the stool out from under his feet?
If you caught David Plouffe on MTP yesterday, it was pretty clear that the Obama campaign believes that they will be running against Romney. So if this came out of a Democratic operation, it would have been directed at Mitt, not Cain.
So the question is whether the charges are true or not. If true, I suspect that it came out of the Perry or Gingrich research operations. If totally false, then my money is on Bachmann. That is just the kind of sleazy stunt she would pull.
HR-Couldn’t be Bachmann. Because we know there was a complaint and there was a settlement. (P.S. This doesn’t mean it’s true, sometimes you settle with folks because it makes them go away and it’s cheaper and easier than going to court.) So there are already way too many facts involved for it to be a Bachmann operation.
SV, “way too many facts”? All I have seen is hearsay piled on top of wishful thinking from biased sources who are feeding off of each other.
Tim J,
Try to keep up with the news cycles. Cain’s story now is that there were accusations, that he recused himself, and that a settlement was paid without his involvement.
SV,
What you’re saying about Bachmann makes sense, but don’t underestimate her. She is probably smarter than most people think she is. And she is the master of the Big Lie, e.g. “There are hundreds and hundreds of scientists, many of them holding Nobel prizes, who believe in intelligent design.” However, I agree with you that “something” happened at the NRA. And in politics, as we all know, it is not the crime but the coverup that causes all the damage. Take a look at John Edwards. Outed by no less than a supermarket tabloid, and now facing felony charges for the pay-off.
Roc, you forgot to add: “Cain said he recused himself from an internal investigation by general counsel that found “no basis ” for charges.”
Politico: “Cain reiterated that he’s not aware of any settlements paid to women who accused him of harassment.”
He added: “If the restaurant association did a settlement, I wasn’t even aware of it and I hope it wasn’t for much. If there was a settlement, it was handled by some of the other officers at the restaurant association.”
Where are the women, what are their names, what were the specific charges, how much did they get paid, was there a criminal complaint filed and when and where did this happen?
Tim J,
The NRA pays out reported five-figure settlements for accusations that an internal investigation found “no basis for” and the association president had no knowledge or made prior approval of it? Do you really believe that much cash could walk out the door and Cain wouldn’t have known it?
Kind of like Kenneth Lay was paid $37M a year at Enron, but never read the financial reports.
Can I interest you in some waterfront property for sale? We’ll go see it at the next low tide.
This is all tabloid, sensational, agenda-based reporting from Politico which has repeatedly demonstrated their intentions in trying to find the nails with which to nail Cain’s coffin lid shut after they finish lynching him. Until some credible facts are released, you can read the same level of tabloid news while standing in line at the 7-11 waiting to pay for a Big Gulp. I have already have waterfront on the Eastern Shore, York County and the Outer Banks, it’s all above low tide and has great fishing, crabbing and shellfish.
Ah, finally… Greta van Susteren does some more digging in an extended interview with Cain tonight and comes up with some details that apparently are “shocking” on her show tonight. The way these revelations are being panned, Cain is toast.
Tim J,
Careful. You are digging yourself in pretty deep. If and when the facts come out, you might be a tad embarrassed. BTW, since when did Politico have a liberal bias?
Also, I hope that your waterfront property is above high tide, not low tide.
“Deep”? “since when did Politico have a liberal bias?” From the elite cocktail circuit:
Politico – Roger L. Simon “… the goodfellas at Politico are letting the uppity black conservative have it.” “Cain is a genial, harmless dodo who thinks running a country is just like running a business. But it isn’t.”
Politico – Ken Vogel “Politico‘s Ken Vogel Refuses To Confirm Or Deny Cain Story Came From Rival Camp” in an interview with Sergeant Schultz of MSNBC “What was important to us was that we were about to verify what was initially a very vague, sort of broad contour of the story… and present it in a way that has yet to be challenged,” Vogel explained. In other words, we pulled the pin on this 20 year old grenade and rolled it into the Cain campaign to see who we could make jump or panic and to also see if it would explode.
And then an observation from a good friend at UVA , the venerable Larry Sabato:
“And if any other candidate has played a role in getting the information out in public, and the story’s sourcing is ever traced to a campaign operative, then the irony is that another presidential contender could pay a much larger price than Herman Cain.”
And finally, I’ll worry about and pay taxes on my properties, you should do the same.
Lame Stream Media CEO Fred Ryan has turned Politico into the place to go for breaking news.. and rumors to be taken with a grain of salt. Yeah, Politico was founded by former Reagan folks who market their media bias as neutral but I call their bluff. Newt took the Politico moderator to the woodshed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXdvPaTaXtg&feature=player_embedded.
Know who Politico is today, not by those who founded it and worked for Reagan.
That Politico moderator at the debate was John Harris.. http://www.politico.com/reporters/JohnHarris.html
Hugh Hewitt nails it.
Thanks, “turbo”, I was going to use that clip to demonstrate the point that some of them have turned in to liberal bomb throwers, but you beat me to it. By the way, Herman just announced that yesterday was his largest fund raising day, ever.
You are welcome Tim J.. Politico is an organ of NYT and WashPo.. They mention two unidentified women who will not unseal docs and say there was a proposition regarding her height. These types of charges with very limited evidence is all too commonplace coming from both sides of the aisle. If this is a story, its about blue state smoke and mirrors.
Witness the leftstream Politico editors hell bent on destroying Cain.. Case dismissed.
Lynching is Fred Ryans Jr’s craft. Reagan was betrayed.. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1111/67307.html
