Jeff Frederick to Debate an Empty Chair this Friday
By Krystle Weeks | Thursday, October 27th, 2011 | Northern Virginia, Politics, VirginiaIncumbent Sen. Toddy Puller (D-Woodbridge) is shying away from debating her challenger, Jeff Frederick. Does this mean that she is afraid to discuss the issues and her plan for improving the district? Puller is in one of the toughest races in her career, and one would think that she would want to ask questions of her challenger, so voters could make an informed decision on November 8th.
It appears that Puller is not going to debate Frederick on NewsTalk with Bruce DePuyt on Friday at 10 a.m., and Frederick will now be on air in an interview format. (For those in the D.C. area, you can tune into NewsChannel 8 for the interview that was supposed to be a debate.)
Frederick said:
Elected representatives shouldn’t be hiding from their constituents. Senator Puller and I both believe that their are stark differences in our records, so it would be helpful to let us highlight these differences for voters. We can have a frank discussion on lowering taxes, improving economic growth and finally making some tangible progress on Route 1. There is still time for Senator Puller to reconsider her decision not to debate. I hope she will still show up on Friday.
My guess is that Puller is trying to avoid discussing real issues, particularly since she opposes the eminent domain amendment to the Virginia Constitution, and the lack of progress surrounding the improvements of the Route 1 corridor.

Update: While it seems like Puller is avoiding debates, it appears that Del. Luke Torian (D-Woodbridge) is willing to go on NewsTalk to debate his opponent. There’s no fear there.

Well, thank the Lord, finally a debate that Jeff might (not sure) win.
Jim: I don’t know. I’ll take the empty chair and give you Frederick and five points.
I think it is two fold. Puller has issues problems. Eminent Domain crosses party lines. Would any reading Democrat be willing to agree that a significant part of the Democrat core has problems with eminent domain abuse?
2ndly every such opportunity will allow Jeff Frederick to soften his negatives with party establishment. They will remember Frederick has won office before and represents a gain the more they can focus on Puller. Each spotlight on Puller earns Frederick more RPV forgiveness.
I don’t know much about Jeff Frederick, other than the issues he’s faced with the state party, but as a long time sufferer in Puller’s district I’m giving him my full support to get her out of here. She’s done. Been in office too long and done too little (not that I want government doing much for me other than spending my tax dollars wisely and otherwise getting out of my way).
I hear two different stories about Jeff Frederick.. One from house gop rinos and another from conservatives who are fed up with the party.
Steve: Thank you so much, I’ll take the 5 points; but, rather than giving me Jeff, do you have any rancid tuna?
Lee: You’re about to learn something about Pullers. By blood or marriage, they’ll tell you when they’re done. Like Lewis and like Chesty, Toddy is a Virginia and an American hero. We should all aspire to have half of her courage, her wit, her humility, her grace, her intellect and her damned good sense.
