“Steve Forbes is a well known fiscal conservative, and provided strong support and advice throughout the process of drafting my economic and jobs plans,” said Gov. Perry. “I am honored to have Steve’s endorsement of my candidacy for president.”

For a candidate that has been strongly identified as the “evangelicals” choice, this should have deep ramifications in the post-Christie endorsement phase of the GOP nomination process.

I must say I am shocked and disappointed. Curious, this. Forbes just wrote an op-ed piece in favor Cain’s 9-9-9 plan.
Very, very interesting.
Though I still wish Steve himself would run…
This is like rearranging deck chairs..
on the Hindenberg.
If Forbes provided major input to Perry’s job and tax plans then he’s an “honorary” or paid member of the campaign isn’t he unless he provides the same info to all candidates at the same time. Sort of a dog bites man story. I don’t think Perry’s conservative views on taxes have ever been a mystery to Republican voters so I don’t know why this would help him all that much.
This endorsement is more about the endorsement of the “flat tax” than it is an endorsement of Perry. The proposal Perry will unveil this week is a rehash of Forbes’ proposed flat tax plan in 1996. Unlike Cain’s 9-9-9, it contains no sales tax. Amazing how candidates can throw out tax reformation schemes that have the most unlikely chance of passage. It is immaterial as to the sources of revenue if the reduction in debt and spending is not sufficiently and specifically addressed. No tax reform plan assures that you will wind up with more disposable income in your pocket. Alternately, the chances of winding up with less is a real possibility.
Steve Forbes will provide a boost…Steve is one of my favorites when it comes to fiscal & monetary policy. Maybe Secretary of Treasury…
Steve Forbes for Treasury Secretary? Sounds about as good as Ron Paul for Fed Chairman!
I’d take political advice from Steve Forbes. After all, he’s done so well at winning elections himself..oh, wait…never mind.
Steve Forbes needs to stick to what he does best: spending the money his father earned and creeping people out.
Wally,
If the FairTax works the way the proponents say it will, then you would have more disposable in come in your pocket.
Jim,
I’m assuming that Steve Forbes is one of your favorites when it comes to fiscal and monetary policy because you like losing your money?
Hell, Steve Forbes, is an excellent example of why we should increase the death tax to 90%, the government would have taken away less that Forbes has spent and lost!
Steve Forbes was promoting alternatives such as the flat tax to our current system back in the 90′s and 00′s and people laughed at him.
He drew attention to what we now know. We have an extremely complicated tax code with tons of loopholes and has thus sprouted a whole industry based around helping you navigate these complicated waters. Now these reforms could very well be a reality.
In the end Steve could win on this issue and validate all the flat tax/fair tax activists out there.
wouldn’t,
A few years ago when Steve Forbes was running for President and pushing his 15% flat tax idea, I was preparing both my taxes and my elderly mother’s taxes. I decided one evening to recalculate our taxes based on Forbes’ formula. Guess what? My elderly mother who was living on a five-figure Social Security and a modest trust fund income would pay more income tax than I would pay on my six-figure salary.
The wealthy are taxed enough now and don’t need to be taxed more. But they certainly don’t need a flat tax that provides less revenue to the Federal government and shifts the tax burden to the middle class. Why do you suppose someone named “Forbes” would be pushing a flat tax idea?
Roc, you live in Northern Virginia and your only in six figures?
