Donner on Radtke: “Does her word mean nothing?”
By Norman Leahy | Monday, October 17th, 2011 | Politics, VirginiaAs a follow-up to Ward’s post about Senate candidate Jamie Radtke backing out of a tea party sponsored debate because George Allen will not be in attendance, fellow Republican hopeful Tim Donner had this to say:
I find it shocking and disappointing that a candidate who agrees to participate in a debate – sponsored by her own organization – would back out of her commitment just days before the event. Does her word mean nothing? What is she afraid of? This is the behavior of a typical politician. The voters of Virginia deserve better. I have said from the beginning of my campaign that I will debate any and all candidates in this race anywhere, anyplace, anytime.
If the Jackson or McCormick campaigns make statements on this matter, we will post them.

I respect Tim Donners desire to have a debate. What were his comments on Jeffersonian Conservative Indian bashing George Allen not agreeing to participate in said debate?
Without George Allen agreeing to debate, the field is in for a Jones Town style massacre that benefits establishment favorite George Allen, the front runner.. The Conservative One.
George Allen never agreed to participate in this debate. Jamie is now laid bare as a hypocrite who whines about not getting the chance to debate and now she goes back on her word.
She runs around the state attending all manner of tiny events for a dozen people or less, but she refuses to attend a debate she has long been committed to where 300 Virginians will gather to hear? SHE’S DONE. I don’t know if I’m voting for Donner or not, but I’ll never vote for Radtke.
Bush league move, to be sure… I can’t believe Radtke really feels this way about fellow conservatives, the Shenandoah Tea Party, and others who were eagerly looking forward to this debate.
Maybe Donner really is that formidable a candidate? Or Jackson that excellent a public speaker? Either way, this should be the final nail in a thus far embarrassing campaign effort from Radtke.
Question: when will she “suspend” her campaign? Any takers? Or are we looking at this going on until the bitter, career-destroying end?
What chance do any of the candidates have of beating Allen without Allen in the debate? It took me a while to see the logic too Shaun.
Look, if Donner doesn’t realize Jamie did him and every otherf candidate a favor, then I say Donner doesn’t want to be Senator. He just wants to be in 2nd. He’s not a real candidate if his goal is to debate for 2nd place.
“Career destroying”, we heard that tactic before Shaun. Jamie is gaining traction and you guys are scared.
“Jamie is gaining traction.” Really? How so? Has she broken out of single digits yet in the polls? Has she raised 10% of what Allen has raised?
Oh, that’s right. She slammed the Bearing Drift poll. BFD.
Well, will wonders never cease? Miss Voice-of-the-people, miss Golly-Gee-whiz-I’m-just like-you uses a venue for her own benefit. Big surprise. She used Bob Marshall, she used the area tea parties, and now used the Shrnandoah Tea Party and we are all surprised. She is nothing more than a self-aggrandizing, petulant child who is arrogant enough to believe the cult she’s built will excuse her and turn another blind eye to all of this. I hope the other candidates move forward with the debate. At least we will get real answers to important questions. Jamie can keep her fluff and nonsense and save it for the groupies.
Cain is doing well because his televised debating let people see him on his feet taking on his opponents, despite the fact that he raised 10% relative to Perry proving money does not make a better candidate. Money makes that last stretch for the finish line easier by facilitatingt TV ad buys.
You Allen folks must sleep well at night knowing that you are giving the democrats the republican they want and what they need in order for Kaine to win is a divided republican base. Brilliant.
Sleep tight. You may get your wish.
You are right, Cohen. The Republicans in VA should be concerned with the candidate most likely to beat Kaine; or at least the one who will be difficult for Kaine to counter. That certainly isn’t Allen, and will not be Radtke either.
TwoFace, who do you think will be difficult for Kaine to counter? I would pit Radtke or Jackson against Kaine if the goal was to win a gop seat. What say you?
Cohen, no way in my mind can Radtke survive a Kaine attack. She has plenty.of hypocritical quits and far too much baggage that will be easy.fodder. same with Allen–he is easily defeated. I do think Donner has the.best chance, because he has no obvious baggage, has good connections and presentation himself as a serious candidate. The establishment GOP and the.tea party PACKAGE have a base but Donner has appeal to the uncounted voter. That, as a percentage, is far larger than the other two groups. Remains to be seen how much exposure he can garner in the next 8 months. Keep in mind that just 30 days ago, Herman Cain was neo.g counted out. Now, he is polling 2nd and even first. He is something like fifth in funding by the.way. the face of political has changed. Those who play the old game are doomed to defeat.
Apologise for the misspelled words. Am using a touch pad.
Too bad for those of us who plan to attend the debate. It would have been good to see how well Radtke and Donner handle themselves. I have seen Donner and was impressed but Radtke is more of a mystery except for published rants. Donner tied Allen in a recent poll so he must be a viable candidate.
It seems to me the whole point of this “debate” is to try to “show up ” the AP debate that hasn’t allowed all of the canddidates in for a PRIMARY debate prior to the PRIMARY. That is the issue. To have a debate between the remaining candidtaes only, just makes them all look like the tee-ball palyers, being ignored by the Big Leagues. We need to Pressure the Allen camp to participate in a PRIMARY debate with all of the candidtes. The ONLY way to do this is to keep the momentum going. This is IMPORTANT for ALL republicans. The AP has usurped our primary process. THIS is the reason for not participating. It is for ALL republicans benefit. Not just for a few tea party people putting on an event.
poor spelling is because my mind is ahead of my fingers and I didn’t spell check
In response to your comment Amy, the October 20th debate was scheduled prior to the AP debate in December. In addition, please note that every candidate, including George Allen, was invited to attend.
Look, the RPV elite pushed through the decision to have a primary instead of a party nomination, over the objection of many party members. The VA taxpayer is paying for that primary election. The AP debate circumvents the primary cycle that the VA taxpayer is paying for by interrupting the challenging process in favor of one candidate. Now you boys can play this game if you want, but the bottom line is taxpayer money is involved in what amounts to a stench of election fraud.
The fact that Radtke bailed out on a tea party debate is of little consequence if the main challenger in a primary election refuses to participate in the primary debate. Allen may succeed in becoming the good ole boy candidate, but the RPV’s decision to have a non-primary primary is not going to sit well with voters in urban areas that decide elections.
dITTO aMY! LOL Seriously.. If all of the candidates and all of YOU who say you respect the founders of the USA take a stand and demand that ALL candidate participate then you are upholding the American Way our founders had in mind. Anything less and you are supporting the type of cronyism and tyranny our founders fought against. Make this a fair election representative of We The People. Do you think you can?
How many faces do you have if you post with a pseudonym, Two Face?
HIsRoc, there is progress and thus traction forming. How so? Radtke lost the first couple of BD polls. Then won the last 2 with improving numbers. Agreed, not a game changer just because more of her supporters were motivated to show up than anyone elses. STILL………CONINUAL IMPROVEMENT.
The last quarter Allen still raised more than Radtke, but his numbers are lower than they should be. Exactly why comparisons are made to Kaine’s better numbers leading up to what should be a brutal defeat for Democrats. Radtke got what $116,000 this quarter. Her best quarter to date and she’s pulling in a lot of lower dollar contributions attributable to “grass roots”.
With all this talk about the “American Way”, what happened to the “American Dream”? The “American Way” today is a pseudonym for Statism supported by those progressives who are overseeing the wholesale destruction and annihilation of the “American Dream”.
I just returned from a Detroit business trip and made a point to visit several locations where Stimulus money is fueling Obama’s bulldozers and “destruction jobs” are leveling entire neighborhoods and businesses. This of what people and their families used to consider their “American Dream”.
I was looking forward to seeing Jamie at the debate, I can see both sides of the argument for why she should or shouldn’t be there. What I find laughable is for anyone who supports Allen to be concerned for the other Candidates. If you won’t push Allen to honor his party’s primary then your “concern” means nothing.
It is curious to me how the Radtke groupies continue to ignore the realities of the campaign. I agree that she has raised money, but if you look at the facts and set aside the emotion, the Donner campaign has raised more in less time. He isn’t spending more than he takes in, which is endemic in the Radtke campaign. For a candidate who belittles and decries overspending, she is not setting herself as the example. The reality is, she has little more than attractive sounding platitudes that Kaine will destroy. You can like her all you want, but refusing to face the formidable foe that is going to be Tim Kaine is just foolish.
Tim Kaine will be a formidable foe. Do you in your heart of hearts beleive George Allen will be a formidable candidate? There is no process to test his resolve or his preparedness to take on Kaine. He can’t even handle unknown candidates in his own party. Allen fears a debate with Donner or Radtke but you people think he is ready to debate Kaine. Who believes their own BS?
Hey Turbo, “whaaaaaa! Bawaha!”
Hey BR..

What They’re Saying About Jamie
(Titles and organizations included for descriptive purposes only; quotes reflect opinions / writings of the individuals quoted)
I have had the opportunity to serve with Jamie over the last couple of years. I will tell you that she is a steadfast, unmovable individual who is not afraid to hold the federal government accountable. She is a woman of principle and integrity who honors her word without backing down, even in the face of opposition. Jamie loves her family and country; she is dedicated to uphold the constitution of the United States of America.
Dorothy Bayford, Chairman of Peninsula Patriots
As a concerned citizen, I am greatly appalled at the over reach of our Federal Government. Both political parties continue time after time to drag us further in debt, continue to promote and fund programs that are proven failures and spend our money recklessly. It’s time we had a true voice in Washington that speaks for the people instead of lobbyist and special interest groups. It’s time we had true representation from the grassroots level that knows what it’s like to live within your means. It’s time we had a citizen representative and not a career politician who answers to you and me and not a political machine. It’s time we had Jamie Radtke for U.S. Senator.
Ralph Carter, Chester Patriots
I have had the privilege of working with Jamie for over a year now as a member of the Virginia Tea Party Patriot Federation. Her leadership style brings people together–she puts folks at ease and empowers them to lead where they are in the liberty movement. Jamie’s message since the founding of the Federation has never wavered. She has, is, and will not compromise as a servant leader championing limited government and individual liberty. I wholeheartedly believe that Virginians would be best served with Jamie Radtke as our next senator.
Kristen Cooper, 912 Va Beach First Landing
I am proud to know and to have worked with Jamie in our grassroots effort to get our state and country back on the right track. At first, I was sad when Jamie told me she was going to announce her candidacy for the United States Senate. She led the Virginia’s Tea Party Federation with great success and her leadership will be missed. She was able to pull resources from Tea Party groups all across this great state to get things accomplished and I can only image what she will be able to do as a Senator of Virginia. I am glad to support Jamie Radtke for the United States Senate.
Wayne Cunningham, Chester Tea Party Patriots
I have known Jamie personally for about a year. Before that, I knew her as the head of a great grassroots movement in Virginia, something that was a wave of fresh air after a century of decline in the liberties of Virginians. Now, more than ever, I am convinced that our nation needs a senator such as Jamie Radtke, whose belief in the sanctity of liberty is one that will help free the citizens of our damaged republic from the chains of taxation and regulatory oppression that the federal government (with the help of one of her opponents)has come to impose. No other candidate has the integrity, the honesty or the work ethic to accomplish what is demanded of our next senator. As a mother, patriot, leader and mentor, Mrs. Radtke has shown her strength and it is with great excitement that I personally encourage her to fight this fight, to win the nomination for GOP senate candidate and get to work in Washington on the long fight to save this republic. I personally endorse Jamie Radtke for U.S. Senate.
David Donis, Chairman Hampton Roads Tea Party
Jamie Radtke is a principled conservative who understands both policy and how to work with people to achieve a shared goal. That’s not easy in the highly independent grassroots tea party movement! Jamie has always stood firm on principle, no matter how much pressure was on her to do something else. We need her kind of leadership and fresh ideas in Washington DC.
Karen Miner Hurd, Founder Hampton Roads Tea Party
At times in our lives we are privileged to witness persons of the highest moral character and intellect who have an unwavering allegiance to God, country and family. Jamie Radtke is one such person: a strong, wise leader who speaks and lives the truth. Jamie is the only candidate I would consider for the United States Senate in Virginia.
She has strong leadership qualities, and will stand tall for fiscal responsibility. She brings no baggage to the table, only a meticulous record of high character and unwavering service. Jamie recognizes that liberty, truth and justice are not mere words spoken from a teleprompter, but are the life force and heart of our Republic.
After working with Jamie for several years, I consider her a just and viable candidate for our Virginia Senate. People like Jamie represent our hope to reverse the recent era of fiscal irresponsibility and government mismanagement by Progressives. Our time has come, Jamie’s time is now! Let us follow where she leads….
Evelyn Kerr, Rappahannock Tea Party
There are some people you meet in life who stand out and Jamie Radtke is one of them. Her principles are strongly conservative and she has the ability to articulate them clearly. I can’t wait for the senatorial debates!
Susan Lascolette, Richmond Tea Party
What we need in Washington is a true fiscal conservative who believes that the best government is a limited government that leaves We the People free to make our own decisions. We need people like Jamie Radtke in the U.S. Senate to ensure that the government works for the people. Jamie has demonstrated her adherence to these principles time and again, whether in leading and organizing a statewide coalition of citizens who share her view of limited, fiscally responsible government or her excellent financial stewardship of the Virginia Tea Party Patriots Convention.
What we don’t need are career politicians who already proven themselves to be counter to these values.
Michael Laws, 912 Richmond
I am supporting Jamie Radtke because I believe she is a grass roots activist, a principled leader with a strong belief in the Constitution, who will work for the people of this state and this country, she will change the way politics are done, and she will revitalize Washington, DC
Mary Leedom, Peninsula Tea Party
I enthusiastically endorse Jamie Radtke’s candidacy for the United States Senate in Virginia. Jamie embodies the grassroots leadership that started the Tea Party movement, and she is committed to the three core values–Constitutionally Limited Government, Free Markets, and Fiscal Responsibilities. She has the clarity of purpose and dedication to principle that worn out establishment Republicans like George Allen never had when they were in power, and will never demonstrate if they are returned to power.
Michael Patrick Leahy, Co-Founder of Twitter #TCOT and the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition
Jamie Radtke is my friend. I trust her. I know her voice will be my voice in the United States Senate.
Mark Lloyd — Chairman,
Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation
As a small business owner who struggles daily under the burdens of unreasonable regulations and taxes, not only from the perspective of our business, but from the impact regulation, taxes and irresponsible government have on our clientele, you’re decision to run for a seat in the United States Senate is a breath of fresh air.
I personally know, having served beside you as a volunteer with the Richmond Tea Party, when it comes to rolling up your sleeves and going to work, you are tireless, when it comes to principles, you are unwavering, when it comes to tough decisions, you have the fortitude (and knowledge) to make them.
We…pray for the success of your campaign for Senator. I know you will stand up for the American people, our Constitution, Liberties and the Free Market. I also know you will do this with proven integrity.
Personally, and on behalf of our company, I am happy to offer our support and endorsement. May God bless you, your family and your campaign.
Conklin “Corky” Mann, Richmond Tea Party
Jamie Radtke has the knowledge and the heart to preserve America the way our founding fathers deemed it necessary for the survival of a Blessed country. By her not being a career politician, I can trust she will NOT follow suit with those who are.
Debbie Mason, Lynchburg Tea Party
Jamie Radtke is inspiring! She is a true patriot, dedicated to the cause of liberty and willing to champion the rights of all. We had the pleasure of having Jamie speak to the East Henrico Tea Party Patriots recently, and her energy and commitment are quite evident. She is not afraid of a fight, yet is polite, pleasant, and professional. I look forward to supporting Jamie in her bid for the U.S. Senate!
Mark Matthews, Founder, East Henrico Tea Party
Thinking that we should expect better results by re-electing establishment politicians is not a strategy for success. To bring actual positive change in Washington, we need new ideas and fresh faces. Jamie Radtke’s vision of common-sense governance based on conservative principles is desperately needed in a government that continues to fail its people.
Eric McGrane, Richmond Tea Party
Jamie not only acknowledges the hurdles our country has to clear, she has a plan. She will tackle these head on with common sense and an eye to the freedoms that made this country great. Jamie will make the tough calls to take the hard right over the easy wrong and will bring honor and prosperity to our country and our state.
Rob McIntire, King William Tea Party
Two years of painful failed leadership in Washington and the recent failure of establishment Virginia Republicans (Cantor) to support aggressive spending cuts reaffirms that Jamie Radtke is what we need in Washington. Senator Allen’s years in the Virginia Senate clearly reflected his “establishment” tendency and spending mentality. Jamie represents those tax payers who feel the spending has to stop and that elected officials respect and support governing as set forth by the Constitution.
Jamie Radtke is a savvy political activist with extensive experience crafting legislation. A champion for family values and liberty, Jamie will bring experience and common sense to Washington. As a mother and grandmother I recognize my responsibility to help elect representatives who will fight for common sense governing, fiscal responsibility and the protection of family values. Jamie’s experience makes her an excellent candidate to reflect the change in governing the voters in the 2010 election overwhelmingly support.
Debbie Pavon, Hampton Roads Tea Party
As a contender for the Senate, Jamie Radtke is the best choice for Republicans who want limited government and fiscal responsibility. She will be a citizen legislator who will not be a “business as usual” career politician, indebted to special interests and lobbyists. Get to know this candidate who has an in-depth grasp of the issues and solid conservative values, as demonstrated by her leadership of the Richmond Tea Party and Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation.
John and Sharon Phelps, New Kent Tea Party
I am thrilled to support my friend Jamie Radtke for the United States Senate. She is a true patriot. She was in the tea party ovement since the beginning of this movement and is running for office for all of the right reasons. She is someone Virginia can be proud of and she will represent Virginia and Virginians well in the United States Senate. I have often said it is not enough to replace bad leaders. We must replace bad leaders with good leaders. Jamie is a good leader.
Judson Phillips, Founder of Tea Party Nation
If you haven’t already, I encourage all Virginians to make it point to get to know the only real viable candidate in the race for Virginia’s US Senate seat! Having served with Jamie in various leadership positions within the Tea Party, I can attest to her endless energy, acute insights into all the issues plaguing our country and the courage to get into the weeds, make decisions and execute on those decisions collaboratively.
Creativity and her positive approach to achieving results are her strong suit. She has the horsepower and the will to make things happen all while home schooling her three children!
I have witnessed first-hand the earned respect from the many American patriots who are actively engaged in addressing the pressing issues of the day both in the local and national arenas. I am extremely happy with Jamie’s decision to enter the Senate race – she has my personal endorsement – it’s time we send a citizen to Washington and not a career politician!
Phil Rapp, Richmond Tea Party
I’ve given the choice of our next Senator a lot of thought. Picking the person who best represents my views and those of the many people that I interact with on a daily basis is not to be taking lightly. I am making this endorsement as a private citizen. Most of you know me through my work with the tea party movement locally and across the state.
I have no role in Jamie’s campaign. I just have a strong desire to see our country continue to move in the right direction. I firmly believe with all my heart that Jamie is the person who can best make that happen. I endorse her candidacy without any reservations. I like many others have received E-mails from George Allen, Dick Morris and others. Although they may call themselves conservatives have for some reason decided to forsake their conservative values and back yet another establishment candidate. One thing I have learned over the years is that establishment candidates never stick to their values. They are among the first to sell us out in the name of compromise.
I was a George Allen supporter; when he got to Washington he seemed to have forgotten his conservative roots. His votes as a Senator speak volumes about the lack of conviction to conservative principles. He backed George Bush by voting for one of the biggest increases in Federal spending. He also supported No Child Left Behind, a costly program to create a national education report card; favored a federal program to subsidize the costs of prescription drugs for Medicare beneficiaries; and voted to expand the Hate Crimes Prevention Act to include crimes based on sexual orientation. To me these look like votes for bigger government.
The stakes are higher now and I can’t afford to sit on the sidelines, say nothing and do nothing. So I have a commitment to support Jamie Radtke as our next U.S. Senator.
Yale Schiffman, Prince William Tea Party, Woodbridge, VA
Far from the nuanced parsed words from most political candidates Jamie Radtke is a breath of fresh air. The candor and brevity in her responses to questions underlie an honesty. Her integrity is easily one of her most distinguishable traits , and one I might add that will be welcome in the U.S. Senate when she wins this seat next fall”
Bob Shannon, Founder, King William & Mechanicsville TEA Parties
A pox on the scurrilous men who have sold out our nation for political expediency. Their only loyalty is to their own pocketbooks and their crony pals who could give a rat’s ass what happens to the nation as long as they can profit from it all and stay in power. This plague of locusts is stripping us bare. As the congress continues to deal with this ongoing debt crisis I am both disgusted and grieved at what those who were charged with preserving the integrity of our currency, not to mention our constitution, have done.
Jamie Radtke sincerely believes in the founding principles which made this the greatest nation to have ever existed……and I believe in Jamie.
Carol Stopps, Treasurer, 9/12 Richmond
At this critical point in the Nation’s history our leaders cannot be indecisive about cutting the Federal budget, reducing the size and scope of the Government and reducing the debt.
The “retreads from the major parties” will not act in time, or act at all, to save the Country. I believe Jamie Radtke has the moral compass and fortitude to “just say no”. I pray that the impending collapse is delayed long enough for her and other new leaders to take office.
Jeremy Taylor, Alexandria Tea Party, Executive Board
Since I met Jamie in 2009, I have worked closely with her and been deeply impressed by her passionate and effective leadership of multiple organizations advancing the cause of We the People in Virginia and America. I know she would serve honorably as a strong and needed advocate for our interests in Washington, pushing back against the career politicians who are advocates only for their own interests.
Jon Wakefield, Richmond Tea Party
George Allen…voted step-in-step with George Bush and that’s why he was not reelected…We need Jamie Radtke, a young conservative who can lead her generation back to the principles our Nation once stood for. No more political correctness when it covers up the Truth; no more policies that disable our economy; and no more mandates that make Americans weak, here and abroad!
Sandy Westmoreland, Richmond Tea Party Patriot
Jamie Radtke is inspiring! She is a true patriot, dedicated to the cause of liberty and willing to champion the rights of all. We had the pleasure of having Jamie speak to the East Henrico Tea Party Patriots recently, and her energy and commitment are quite evident. She is not afraid of a fight, yet is polite, pleasant, and professional. I look forward to supporting Jamie in her bid for the U.S. Senate!
Mark Matthews, Eastern Henrico Tea Party
I personally endorse Jamie Radtke for Virginia’s US Senate Seat. She has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the founding, organization, and activities of the VA Tea Party Patriots. I fully support her views on government limited by the U.S. Constitution and feel that she would be an excellent senator.
Gene Underwood, Executive Committee, 99th District Tea Party
Jamie is the personification of the non-government official running for political office. Her message is constitutional and consistent. She is one of the toughest political characters out there…A really good word to describe to Jamie Radtke as an opponent is ‘formidable.’
