Dirty, Cheap Shot Push Poll Against Schoeneman in HOD 37?
By | Monday, September 19th, 2011 | Politics

Paging Floyd Mayweather…

Schoeneman has run a campaign about issues and ideas. He hasn’t been out name calling. I think we’re all getting tired of the same tired old Democratic trick of painting anyone to the right of Karl Marx as some kind of radical right wing extremist.

Which is why I am absolutely shocked that — given tonight’s feedback — Brian Schoeneman just might be a more serious and credible threat than the Bulova clan apparently is admitting to the Washington Post.

With 49 days left in the campaign, someone is launching a series of nasty push polls against Schoeneman in Northern Virginia — though recent fundraising reports show incumbent David Bulova well ahead, it appears as if the constant door knocking campaign combined with some serious national backlash has Bulova taking out an insurance policy of sorts.

The latest attack? Bearing Drift’s own moderate Republican voice from Northern Virginia is being characterized as a “radical libertarian” and a “segregationist.”

Really??

You mean, Bearing Drift’s token pro-labor Northern Virginia RINO a libertarian?!

I talked to Schoeneman tonight after he got back from a long night of knocking doors in the district and he related a story told to him by a voter and the voter’s wife. The voter was so angry at the push poller he hung up in the middle of the 20 minute call and never got to hear the attribution line – assuming there was one. The pollster even called back to try and complete the call but got the same treatment.

Schoeneman mentioned that he spoke with his opponent David Bulova at a Back to School night event tonight about the call. Bulova adamantly denied running the poll, going so far as to say “cross my heart” neither his campaign nor the Virginia Democratic Party was responsible for it. Bulova said he had no idea who was behind it, but that it wasn’t something DPVA would do, either.

Uh-huh… who loses, and who gains, David?

So who did it? Someone must be behind the call, and it’s doubtful they’re voting Republican. Given the pro-Bulova slant the call had prior to the smears, this wasn’t some kind of legitimate poll. Otherwise they wouldn’t be going to such ridiculous lengths to paint Schoeneman as something he is not.

Radical libertarian?? C’mon. All apologies to Brian, but Schoeneman doesn’t come close.

Segregationist? That’s just stupid talk. This is the same guy who criticized liberal bloggers for politicizing racial issues and minimizing them, the same one who has been active in outreach to ethnic communities on behalf of Republicans and who is roundly attacked by folks on the far right as being too moderate.

The guy works for a labor union and defends them here at Bearing Drift of all places– are the Democrats really going to try and say he’s some kind of extremist?

For a guy who has two years worth of putting his opinions on Bearing Drift and other sites, all it takes is a Google search and ten minutes worth of reading to realize Schoeneman isn’t the Fairfax version of Ron Paul. He’s a committed Republican who has run a small business, who is wants to focus on Northern Virginia’s transportation issues, is a solid fiscal conservative and who will be a great asset to Governor McDonnell and his jobs agenda in Richmond.

Frankly, we need more candidates like Brian. These kinds of smears won’t stick because anyone who has met him knows they’re bogus. And they demonstrate that the Democrats’ internal polling has them scared and on the ropes.

Let’s face it. You don’t run those kinds of nasty, cheap shot push polls when you think you’re winning.

The national climate is telling DPVA pollsters they’re in trouble in Northern Virginia. If they’re in trouble there… watch out statewide.

Schoeneman the libertarian and segregationist? In the words of Inigo Montoya, “I do not think it means what you think it means.”

If this is all Bulova’s got, he’s pretty sad.

We have seen this many times before in the Connolly/Bulova Fairfax County dirty politics. Back in 2007 when an anti-Connolly liberal reformer challenged Supervisor Linda Smyth in the Democratic primary, (yes, the Linda Smyth who was a former chairperson of “Republicans for Connolly) the challenger was branded by mass mailings and robo calls as a DINO.

Until Fairfax County gets rid of Gerry Connolly and his flying monkeys, then we are going to be stuck with these anti-democracy dirty tricks. Unfortunately, the Fairfax County Republican Committee is a huge enabler with their anti-tax pledge zealots and book-burners.

The Dems have been pretty quiet statewide so far with an occasional outburst here and there. I have talked to several campaigns who expect the Dems to start unloading on their opponents in October which is why the ground game for Republicans is so important right now. With the Dem’s national political machine starting to crumble at the edges, most campaigns are going to become very shrill and insane as they start to panic.

Democrats seem to be panicking and they should be. It’s not everyday a democratic seat that’s been held for 88 years is lost to a Republican.

    Brian,

We are proud of your efforts against the madness. Maybe Bulova knows something looking at his watch.
