Sarah Palin still gets the pressie juices flowing
By Norman Leahy | Thursday, September 15th, 2011 | VirginiaSitting in the press section of an political event is kind of like being at the kids’ table on Thanksgiving: you’re to be seen, but not heard. But that doesn’t prevent strangeness from happening.
While the assembled BD crew was chatting about who else might get into the presidential race, Sarah Palin’s name arose. After some spirited comments, a CNN hand close by chimed in with news that Joe McGinniss’s book on Palin had hit the streets and he pointed us to a typically-understated Daily News piece in which McGinniss charges that long ago, young Sarah hit the sheets with an NBA basketball player, had a nose for Peruvian marching powder and was otherwise unfaithful to her husband.
“How’s she going to explain that?” the CNNer asked. After reading the Daily News story, it seems she has nothing to explain at all. The one who needs to explain is McGinniss, whose work is so poorly sourced (if at all) that even the New York Times was compelled to trash it.
Still, it was fascinating to see that even the most grotesque fabulism can find a willing audience within certain sectors of the national press. Then again, it was aimed at Palin, so the suspension of disbelief wasn’t just a given, but an article of faith.

Damn, Norm….
I’d agree that no one should not for Palin based on that book. McGinnis started out with a smear job in mind.
Frankly I don’t care who politicians have slept with and the point where youthful drug use was disqualifying has been passed.
However, practically every time she opens her mouth Palin provides completely adequate reasons not to vote for her.
It wouldn’t seem like there’s space in the GOP race for both Palin and Bachmann, they seem to appeal to the same supporters.
Bachmann does seem to be losing steam since Perry got in.
However, I don’t think Palin wants to run for president. She’s on the reality-TV celebrity gravy train now. Running for president is harder work that doesn’t pay as well. She hasn’t exactly shown an affinity for that.
not vote for Palin
Palin is elevated by sympathy for her continued victimization by the snickering, sneering and arrogant media and opportunists who continue to under estimate her and who have developed a mass psychosis about her and her family. She continues to be effective by rolling truth grenades into their sanctimonious institutions including the White House, forcing them time and again to hit the deck, duck and cover. It is not quantifiable, but I wonder how much she has contributed by her articles on Facebook, tweets and appearances to help shape the political and economic narrative that is driving the plummeting approval ratings of Obama, Dems and RINOS.
And Obama hasn’t shown much affinity for the hard work of being president as opposed to goofing off running for president.
The reason the leftists hate Sarah Palin is because they are jealous. She is no dumber than any of them, is good looking and has a happy marriage. I agree that she has no incentive in making the effort where she has no realistic chance of winning. Seems pretty rational to me.
Is she my choice? Of course not. I’ve made my position clear in repeated posts. Presidents should be one of three things: an important state governor, a military general or secretary of state. Worked in the past. Will work in the future.
Tim J’s comment actually rises to the level of absurdity. So the press is supposed to ignore her lack of knowledge of geography, history, foreign affairs, politics, child rearing, and ignore as well her abuse of earmarks and her failure to finish out her term as Governor so she could make more money at CNN? What, are you crazy? Her failures are legendary and her selfish pursuit of fame and fortune too clear for anyone, including the press, to ignore. Would you really want Palin to be your President?
Mike, where in your lefty pea brain did you connect that I wanted her for President? You must be still watching the old reruns of Saturday Night live and confusing your facts with a mediocre comedy routine that was funny to those who had a chemically induced sense of humor. She is a conservative pit-bull who has been rocking liberal-leftists back on their heels, no matter how much they continue to marginalize and attack her. And she is still effective at what she does. By making a bunch of hysterical arguments against her, and getting all sensitive about my points about Sarah Palin, you have proven my point that she is effective and needs to stay engaged at whatever level she needs to be.
Actually Tim J, I never said you did. I simply responded to your absurd comment that the press is victimizing her by commenting our her shall we say attributes. My point is that she deserves all the coverage she gets based upon her own inability to articulate a truhful statement about just about anything. Actually, that seems to be the prime qualification for being hired by the Fox network.
Mike, the “victim” case in point in Norm’s post extends to outright “sexist derision” with the CNN comment: “… young Sarah hit the sheets with an NBA basketball player, had a nose for Peruvian marching powder and was otherwise unfaithful to her husband. “How’s she going to explain that?” the CNNer asked.”
So, you agree with sexist attacks and unsubstantiated and made up “attributes” about Palin that are sanctioned, encouraged, embellished and repeated by your leftist crowd. Your moral relativism based on sexist politics is breath taking and provides a glimpse of how cynical and petty leftists like you are when it comes to respect for women in politics and in larger part, our society.
Well Tim J, I don’t pay any attention to fourth hand accounts, so I am surprised that you would either. My assessment of Sarah Palin does not depend upon hearsay. In every circumstance, listening to her own words, I am surprised that the right wing would seriously consider her to be a legitimate candidate for any office.
It’s unfortunate that this is a common practice in this day and age. Throw some crazy story out there and it doesn’t matter if its true or not; its out there and you’ll always have a small segment of the population that will believe it.
This is exactly what happened with President Obama’s birthplace and religion
The Palin’s have seen an unfair amount of light being shown on them but it seems that they’ve also brought a lot of that on themselves, at least after the election. The news organizations just simply need to stop covering her and her family, but for some reason can’t bring themselves to do so. I could care less, would never buy or read the book, and can’t stand it when there is “Sarah Palin” in the news. She’s not news worthy!
But of course it is possible that Sarah Palin slept with Glenn Rice, was a drug user, and unfaithful. See what I did there?
The “fourth hand accounts” feed the leftist urban mythology about this woman in an attempt to keep her from gaining any political traction. It’s leftist hypocrisy on parade and she isn’t a candidate… at least not for now. She is a conservative pit bull and your worst nightmare. In the mean time, it’s hilarious watching all the leftist bloggers and mainstream press gyrations, and money being spent trying to speculate on her next move. She sure does take the oxygen out of the air when she shows up somewhere and has perfected the art of playing the press with her every move.
Speaking of the Presiddential Race …
On the subject of the 2007 Bilderberg meeting, Perry attempts to defuse and minimize it by stating that he only attended once and talked about energy.
Fact of the matter is Rick Perry violated the Logan Act when he trekked to Istanbul, Turkey, to attend the secretive meeting.
The Logan Act states:
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
“Rick Perry seems to have attempted to get ahead of accusations that he was violating the act in making the visit by claiming the trip was paid for out of campaign contributions and not by taxpayers, but this is inconsequential,” Paul Joseph Watson wrote on May 31, 2007.
It is inconsequential because he violated U.S. law and should be held responsible for doing so.
Again, I don’t care who Sara Palin slept with.
But, as to “fourth-hand accounts,” apparently Glen Rice has confirmed the story, so that’s at least a “first-hand account.”
“Again, I don’t care…”. “But,”… and so it goes with this last nail in the coffin of Palin’s political aspirations. But fresh bodies are lining up for coffins as the Obamagate scandals move into full swing. Methinks that the ghost of Palin will be vocal as ever as nails are being hammered into the coffin lids of political sycophants who have tied their fortunes and influence to their dear savior and leader.
