Preparing for Perry-McDonnell in Richmond tomorrow
By | Tuesday, September 13th, 2011 | Politics

Make no mistake, this race is Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s to lose.

Say all you will about vaccinations, about him once being a Democrat for Gore, or any myriad of things that Congressman Ron Paul, also of Texas, is sure to remind voters of in the coming weeks, Perry is the most-likely GOP nominee.

That makes his visit to Richmond tomorrow intriguing – and important.

What makes it doubly intriguing is that this event is a fundraiser for the Republican Party of Virginia and will be featuring Perry’s right-hand-man at the Republican Governor’s Association, now chairman of that organization, and our governor, Gov. Bob McDonnell.

This, quite possibly, will be the GOP ticket in 2012, and we’re going to see it for the first time tomorrow.

According to officials with RPV this ticket is a hot one. When you consider President Obama was in Richmond mere days ago, and could only muster 5000 free tickets on a university campus (his base), and this event with Perry is a fundraiser getting ready to draw more than 1000 – and climbing – not to mention the 70-plus press that will be there, including live-trucks, well, you get the idea.

Would the same happen for a Romney-McDonnell or Bachmann-McDonnell joint appearance? Quite frankly, I don’t think so.

The excitement and buzz is clearly with Perry right now.

So, Bearing Drift will be there. In addition to myself, contributors Brian Kirwin, Shaun Kenney, Jason Kenney, Lynn Mitchell, Norm Leahy, DJ Spiker, and Jane Dudley are all expected to be attending.

We will be posting audio, imagery, and getting interviews from as many people as possible – both those who are elected and those who are just coming to see the show. We also hope to have an exclusive…more on that as it develops…if it develops.

Streaming live tomorrow morning from Richmond from 5:30 AM – 9 AM will be Brian Kirwin and me, with the voice of Hampton Roads conservatives, Steve Batton on “Steve Batton in the Morning”, as we pregame this. Then, be sure to check out Bearing Drift throughout the day for comprehensive coverage of this important moment in the presidential campaign.

Good thing this is an RPV Fundraiser not a Perry Fundraiser.
McDonnell should NOT endorse Perry. Perry will flame out.
Gingrich, Santorum and Romney are better qualified to be President and more trustworthy to do the job.

Job #1, Obama goes. Job #2, McDonnell becomes #1 via VP.

Thou Shalt Not Do Harm to Bob. If this IS the ticket, Perry will be unbeatable and I dare say Trump might not run because of this duo..

Perfect candidates? NOT by a long shot.. none ever were. As the old saying goes perfection is the enemy of good and we only need to be good enough to turn this country around.. In the mean time I will strive for perfection and accept excellence.

“Make no mistake, this race is Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s to lose.”

It certainly is, and so far he is doing that admirably.

“Say all you will about vaccinations, about him once being a Democrat for Gore, or any myriad of things that Congressman Ron Paul, also of Texas, is sure to remind voters of in the coming weeks, Perry is the most-likely GOP nominee.”

Uh, I wouldn’t be so quick on the draw there cowboy.

“The excitement and buzz is clearly with Perry right now.”

Hate to differ, but last night “TEA PARTY” debate did make me want to get all wet over Rick Perry. He came off as bozo in my opinion. I was actually much more impressed with Romney, Hunt and Gingrich. They seem to have a command of the English language that Perry does not.

James posts as if the election were this November, not next. Perry’s Texas charm will be short lived as his radical and not well thought out platform starts to be better known and his inability to articulate a thought will render him useless to the field. He may be the darling of the tea party, which frankly, given his record of creating minimum wage jobs, is astounding to me, but he scares most republicans who realize he could reframe the race in a way that will benefit the election of the President. He should enjoy his meteoric rise; the fall will come soon enough.

I personally feel Romney will be the nominee. I’m just posting my observations, not conclusions.

So since you are there, please ask Perry how he will continue to pay the benefits of those who now receive social security if no one is paying into the system in the future. If it is truly a scheme as he says, then he knows that those now receiving benefits paid in during their working lives, that revenue was paid out to beneficiaries, and we who have paid it yet have not yet retired expect the same for us. So if he abolishes SS, yet he promises no one currently receiving benefits will be affected, how will he pay out their benefits. A tax increase? And for those of us who have contributed all our working lives, how will we be compenstated for our contributions? We want to know!
