In other words, they are going to show up to watch paint dry and check for any floor cracks in the restrooms after the earthquake.

This is pretty much the standard schedule for the first day after Labor Day and the August recess. It allows the members to travel back to Washington on Tuesday and not miss any recorded votes instead of traveling on Labor Day when they need to be in their districts participating in Labor Day parades, picnics, making speeches, etc. Those of us living in Virginia tend to forget how many members live in the western states where even a 6 AM flight will not get you back to Washington before 3 or 4 PM local time. And, as someone who used to work for a company headquartered in LA, I can tell you that the red-eye flights get old real fast.
Now, then. The question is who will be watching Obama present his “jobs plan” (versus a “business plan” or a “manufacturing industrial plan”) to Congress on Thursday night or watching the season opening of the NFL? Can I see a show of hands for Monday Night Football on Thursday night?
