Steve Thomas, Spotsylvania GOP committee head, has announced to Bearing Drift that he is filing his paperwork to represent the 56th District in the House of Delegates.

The seat has recently become vacant due to former Del. Bill Janis resigning and announcing his campaign this morning to seek the Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney position.

Thomas tells BD that his campaign already has a great deal of momentum, significant fundraising, and a laundry-list of endorsements.

More to follow on this developing story, including pictures from today’s Janis event….

Also released this evening, David A. Brat announced that he will be running as a candidate for the seat of the House of Delegates.

Dr. Brat serves on Governor McDonnell’s economic advisory board, was president of the Virginia Association of Economists and currently is a member of the RMA and GRASP boards.

“I am running because I believe that I am prepared personally and professionally to serve the citizens of the 56th House District in the General Assembly. My background in economics and ethics in particularly well suited to many of the conservative principles and ideas which I will share with the voters and in my campaign.”
