Cuccinelli Endorses Garrett in VA-22
By | Friday, August 12th, 2011 | Politics

From the release:

I am proud to announce my support and endorsement for my friend Tom Garrett in the 22nd District State Senate race. It is my firm belief that Tom has the experience, judgment and temperament to make an outstanding state senator.  Further, Tom is a strong constitutional conservative with a proven record that is unmatched in this race.

I do not make this endorsement lightly.  There are many fine candidates in this race, however, none have proven themselves to be leaders in protecting and defending the laws and constitutions of Virginia and the United States like Tom Garrett.

Tom is well known for taking stands on issues he believes in.  During my race for the nomination for Attorney General in 2009, Tom Garrett was the sole prosecutor to back me during the nomination. Not only did he back my candidacy, but he also worked tirelessly during the general election to help with the Melendez-Diaz special session, which resulted in closing a loophole that allowed drunk drivers to get off scot-free.

…and there you have your rationale.  Cuccinelli is as loyal as they come.

Garrett’s campaign additionally released the results of an internal poll of 300 likely voters this Friday evening showing Garrett at 20%, Rhode 17%, and Peake at 15%.   A full 39% were undecided — which means Tucker and Bates split the bottom of the ticket with 9% between them.

Requests for the questions, methodology, and margin of error for the poll went unanswered as of Friday evening, which naturally casts doubt on the validity of the poll.  All other polls thus far have shown Peake and Rhode fighting for first, with Garrett in a distant but commendable third.

    Fixed that for ya.

Tom Garrett couldn’t get 1 vote out of a thousand indy voters. For the Tea party to feel so strong about everyone paying their own bills they have endorsed the only candidate that has a problem paying his bills.

Uh oh… did our AG step in another pile of poop again… one wonders.

In an earlier post many rumors were mentioned but not fleshed out. Does Cooch and the Lynchburg TEA Party know of the rumors and have they ignored them or found them not credible. The voters in the 22nd need to know before the primary. Mike and Cooch, please tell us.

    Tucker,

Don’t expect Mike to be objective. He’s on Garrett’s payroll:

And now you probably have a good idea of which debate was staged/=.

I am deeply concerned about this endorsement. Since the first time I met Mr. Garrett he has been ingratiating himself, claiming to be a “Cuccinelli Conservative” – whatever that means. From what I can tell from this press release, it’s good old cronyism and “I’ll endorse my pal” politics. If the good of the District was actually being considered, Garrett could not possibly be Cuccinelli’s choice. Garrett has NO experience for the kind of leadership and problem-solving that are going to be required to help further the interests of the HEART LAND. To endorse one of the candidates who has that kind of experience, Cuccinelli would have to endorse Brian Bates.
I can only hope that the people of the new 22nd District will choose to NOT be represented by yet another lawyer or lobbyist and will choose someone who’s a real, hometown working guy with real-world experience going for him.

What in the hell is wrong with Cuccinelli does he really think Tom Garrett has a snowballs chance in hell of winning the general election ? You know everyone has one or two skeletons in their closet(me included)but Tom Garrett has five closets cramed full of skeletons.Tom Garrett is a walking train wreck waiting to happen.Im suprised anyone would endorse this idiot. You have to wonder the integrity of anyone that has endorsed Tom Garrett.

I’d encourage anyone with questions regarding the Attorney General’s motivation for endorsing Garrett to read his entire statement, not just one sentence. There were many ways he could thank or return past support without making a formal endorsement.

As someone who has known Tom Garrett personally for many years, I am disheartened by the slanderous rumors being spread. I’m not sure based on what I’ve read, that I believe even half of what has written on this site although, I’m certain the majority of comments are motivated out of support for another candidate, which is sad in its own right. If you truly have a strong candidate, there is no need to slander and resort to making up or spreading rumors about another.

The Attorney General, the Lynchburg Tea Party and many others who have invested the time and energy to get to know Tom personally have it right.

If you think the people on here have been hard on Tom Garrett let him win the primary and watch what the Democrats do to him.Tom Garrett brought this on himself by getting into this race with all of his skeletons hid in the many closets. Please don’t get upset with anyone but Tom Garrett he never should have entered this race if he didn’t want his many skeletons to slip out.If you are someone that has known Tom Garrett personally for many years you should tell him the truth if he can’t stand the heat from the Republicans it will get alot worse with the Democrats. You will have to tell him the truth his paid advisors will only tell him what he wants to hear so they can keep getting paid. Its really sad to see Tom Garrett can be fooled so easily by paid advisors. No wonder he made so many plea bargains.Paige the attorney general and the lynchburg tea party along with anyone else foolish enough to support Tom Garrett are very wrong about him.Tom Garrett is a wolf in a sheeps suit but the sheeps suit is coming off soon.

Paige, the fact that you support your brother is nice and no one expects you not to support your brother, Tom Garrett but running in a district that he doesnt even live in and putting his family through what the Democrats are going to do to him is just plain selfish.

  12. William Goose August 15, 2011 12:44 pm

How can a poll for a state senate race be accurate? Very few folks vote in these primaries. This poll is trash, much like the endorsement.

  13. W August 17, 2011 15:09 pm

09′ stats for the now VA 22nd District: Rep. Gov 64%, Dem. Gov 36%, Rep. Lt. Gov 62%, Dem. Lt. Gov 38%, Rep. Att. Gen. 64%, Dem. Att. Gen. 36%

The district is solid Republican. This race isn’t about electibility. All of the candidates are electible. Now you just who you like the most and represents you the best. And all of these unbased rumors swirling around is really ridiculous. If your candidate is so great why spread lies?

  14. Red Baron August 17, 2011 15:48 pm

W Tom Garrett is a very flawed candidate with ALOT of baggage.I sure wish someone would release Tom’s many skeletons. If the Republicans don’t the Democrats sure will.Im sure Dotson has the info but he sure isn’t going to release it before the primary. If a man won’t pay for his home or his childrens care what else has he beaten people out of ?

  15. W August 19, 2011 16:16 pm

    Red Baron, Sources please.

  16. Mike Troxel August 22, 2011 12:58 pm

Well gee, Georgia Natural August, they aren’t my words, Ken Cuccinelli said them, you’d just prefer he hadn’t.

You can say I’m on Garrett’s pay roll all you want, but the fact of the matter is, my name is not on ANY paycheck from his campaign, nor do I own any company paid by his campaign, and the fact of the matter is that SingleTree is a company I’m contracted to do work for and I do not own it nor do I have control of or access to it’s finances.

You can say I’m not objective all you want to, but if you’re going to do that, then you have to paint Bearing Drift with that brush as well b/c they’ve taken a much bigger check from a candidate (150%) and have endorsed him in the race and there’s a much more direct link between the money there.

I’m not sure why people want to make the accusation that any debates were staged. Do you really want to go there? The fact of the matter is that none of the candidates knew what any of the questions were, and not even Matt Staver (the moderator – who has endorsed Mark Peake) was given the questions until about 20 min before the debate SPECIFICALLY for the reason so that no one could accuse anyone – including him – of potentially leaking questions. The fact is that you conspiracy theorists will see ‘men in black’ behind every tree when what you see doesn’t jive with what you wanted to see.

Oh, and one other thing… I use my real name because I stand behind what I say and I’m not afraid of other people knowing it. If you want anybody to take what you say seriously, maybe you’ll use your real name next time.

  17. Matt August 24, 2011 10:27 am

It is a done deal now. Garrett has the nomination. It is time to move onward an upward to beat the Dems.

  18. Dan Webb August 24, 2011 12:15 pm

I agree with Matt. Primary is over, lets beat the Dems.
