Senator Wagner dodges another bullet
By | Monday, August 8th, 2011 | Politics

It looks like a year that for State Senator Frank Wagner (R-Virginia Beach) came in like a lion is about to go out like a lamb.

Earlier this year, the Democrats in the Senate tried to eliminate Wagner’s district, causing him to threaten to move to Newport News and challenge Democrat Senator John Miller.  In the end, the Democrats backed down, and Wagner retained his district.

More recently, former Virginia Beach mayor Meyera Oberndorf announced that she was considering challenging Wagner.  However, the Virginian-Pilot is now reporting that 70-year-old Oberndorf has decided not to run.  And Virginia Beach Democrat Committee Treasurer Joel McDonald is quoted as saying that the party has no one else on the horizon considering running, with the deadline to file set to expire in a mere two weeks (August 23rd).

Disclosure:  I was Frank Wagner’s legislative aide during his first term in the Virginia House of Delegates in 1992.

While I really like Meyera, she had no chance against Frank. He has stayed on top of what needs to be done to bring us out of this economical and energy dependency crisis. I am glad she knows that. I hope she will enjoy her life and days. Blessings on you Meyera. And, on you Frank as well.
