Radtke wants an RV
By | Saturday, July 30th, 2011 | Politics

Jamie Radtke, whose campaign is apparently underwater, is now appealing to donors for an RV.

From Roll Call:

So she’s asking supporters to help cover the cost of the lease, gas, insurance and signage. She estimates the lease will cost $1,000 per month, insurance will be $300 per month and fuel will be $1,100 per month. Wrapping the vehicle in a campaign sign is a one-time fee of $7,500. Radtke, a tea party leader, is challenging ex-Sen. George Allen for the GOP nomination.

“I need your financial help, today, to make this bus tour a reality,” Radtke said in the fundraising solicitation. “I know in my heart that the launch of this RV tour will be an important milestone in our campaign for U.S. Senate.”

As if traffic in Virginia wasn’t bad enough.

I’ve never leased an RV, but I just can’t imagine she’ll be able find one for $1000/month. I’ve checked out renting one, and the basic models can run from $150/night I’d be impressed if she could lease one for $1000/month. Actually, if she is able to get one for that rate, she should tell the rest of us so we can get in on such a good deal.

She might be right on with the insurance and gas expenditures but an RV for $1000 a month seems a bit dreamy. She’ll also need a driver, unless one of her campaign staffers or volunteers has experience driving 40′ long vehicles. LD could volunteer his time…

She thinks she’ll only have to wrap once? Anyone familiar with the wrap issues HRT has had on its hybrid buses knows she’ll have to wrap at least twice.

Why not ask for an airplane?

All I can say is that I can think of so many more urgent ways for her to spend the campaign money she doesn’t have.

Wow, First of all, she has one (bus) now…second, people that want to elect her have contributed gladly, third, don’t believe everything you hear…What is the problem here…She wants all of the conservative things we all want, and will vote for them, unlike George Allen…wake up people!

I think this is a good idea.

I do not know the specifics, but from what I have seen Mrs. Radtke spends a huge amount of time on the road attending various events, meeting with people, etc. I am sure that hotels and such are prohibitively very expensive for her campaign, and it is a little much to ask her to sleep in her car all the time, so using an RV to get around seems like good business sense to this fiscal conservative. With an RV I am sure she could spend more of her time out in the state speaking to her future constituents, it would save resources as well as helping with logistics I am sure. Seems very practical to me, I know that the folks out in the wilds of the state appreciate Mrs. Radtke’s frequent visits and hope that those visits continue.

Haven’t seen Mr. Allen around in years.

You people must be real sceered of Jamie Radtke.

@temporary. Where do you live ? If you haven’t seen George Allen in the past year, it must be another state because he has been all over helping candidates who are running this year.

Oh geesh! A gratuitous mention of campaign debt. We need an article saying, “George Allen, known for being a bully issuing racial slurs and willingly, apparently, allowed Freddie & Fannie to go under, announced …………

Anyway, there is an sizeable RV. I have been in it. It will be leased for a $1,000 and those are numbers I have already heard about. I am not the only local supporter that has been inside this very practical campaign vehicle.

Hmmmm……..TRY to connect one fund raiser to the movie 300 and now you poke fun of raising money to pay for the use of the bus.

@ Tucker – it may be that Temporary doesn’t remember the Allen visit. I don’t remember Allen coming to Virginia Beach, but I am sure he had to have at some point. I am less likely to attend an Allen event, yet another reason for me or any to forget.

All that said, perhaps Allen should stop travelling. After all, among other things, JR is very concerned about traffic here in Virginia and the difference one RV used by Radtke will make in the grand scheme of things.

Another day, another hit piece on Jamie Radtke.

Here’s an alternate title for this piece:

“Breaking News: candidate seeks donations to fund campaign operations”

    Wow…really hard hitting stuff here.

Another day, another hit piece on Radtke. Here’s an alternate title for this “story”:

“Candidate for office seeks campaign donations to fund operations”.

Wow….how unprecedented. Really hard-hitting stuff here.

I mean, if you’re going to be a front attack group for Allen, at least let your readers know.

  13. James "turbo" Cohen August 2, 2011 07:23 am

“The media”‘ BD in this case, are compromised, having in their own ways made themselves look as foolish as George Allen and his team. As a result, you are not going to get any rational analysis, or intelligent discussion without bias. Oh my.. How mainstream.

  14. Henry Ryto August 2, 2011 07:33 am

Yeah, like the teahadists are “without bias”.

  15. Tea Terrorist August 2, 2011 08:28 am

Henry: everyone has bias. The difference is being dishonest enough to actively exercise that bias.

Do you believe that a candidate raising funds to utilize a tour bus is newsworthy? You didn’t really say.

  16. Britt Howard August 2, 2011 09:45 am

Henry, the Tea Partiers actively supporting Jamie Radtke make no secret about their bias and don’t pretend at being otherwise.

You can be for Allen openly and write objective pieces. You can still be fair. That isn’t what is going on here.

You can’t really say a blogger can’t full blown campaign and spin, BUT it would be far more respectable if this was openly admitted to. At least that would be honest and you could respect their word later if they claim to be “objective” on a different subject.

  17. Henry Ryto August 2, 2011 10:13 am

    Tea Terrorist,

Rat-ke is far too easy a target.

  18. Tea Terrorist August 2, 2011 20:36 pm

Rat-ke? What, are you 12 years old?

  19. ToR August 3, 2011 21:32 pm

    @ Britt

Since you seem to know what’s going on: is she getting a sweet heart deal or is this an RV that anyone can lease for $1000 a month?
