Money Flows As Virginia Senate Races Heat Up
By | Monday, July 25th, 2011 | Politics, Virginia

If anyone doubted that Gov. McDonnell is serious about Republican control of the Virginia Senate, that doubt can be put to rest.

McDonnell has invested serious campaign cash into several races across the Commonwealth. In a telling sign of coming election attractions, he has put his stock in candidates Dave Nutter and Bill Stanley, who are seeking to unseat Democratic incumbents Johnathan Edwards and Roscoe Reynolds respectively.

Despite redistricting that was clearly skewed in favor of Democratic incumbents, they are clearly vulnerable for a challenge. Stanley currently represents 40% of Reynold’s new district, while Sen. Edwards has, by necessity, been forced to add some more Republican areas to his district.

There is no question that both of these races will be closely contested, and control of the Virginia Senate may depend on the outcome.

The media (Bearing Drift included) is either woefully ignorant, following the Republican hierarchy, or both. Dave Nutter is running against Tripp Godsey in the August 23 Republican primary to decide who challenges John Edwards. Dave Nutter has not secured the Republican nomination, although Bob McDonnell thinks he has.
