Janet Oleszek Enters Braddock District Supervisor Race
By Krystle Weeks | Friday, June 10th, 2011 | Politics, VirginiaRemember “I have to waffle,” it was a famous line used during a 2007 State Senate debate by Janet Oleszek, who was running against then-State Sen. Ken Cuccinelli for the general election. Oleszek made many blunders during that race, and there was no doubt that she was not ready for prime time.
In fact, things were so bad during the State Senate race that The Washington Post gave a non-endorsement for Oleszek by saying:
“Democrat Janet Oleszek is a Fairfax County School Board member who has run a lackluster campaign, at times embarrassingly short on substance. The district, in Fairfax County, deserves better choices; we make no endorsement.”
Both Not Larry Sabato and Lowell over at Blue Virginia report that Janet Oleszek will be running for the Democratic nomination to go against current Braddock District Supervisor John Cook in the general election.
You have to wonder what is going in the Fairfax County Democratic Committee right now. This race could become a real battle in terms of leadership, whether State Sen. Chap Petersen takes control of the party or whether Rep. Gerry Connolly’s style stays in place. Both Connolly and Sharon Bulova, Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors recruited Chris Wade to run for the Braddock seat. Wade comes with some baggage, as he has voted in several Republican primaries, and there is no doubt that this upsets the grassroots. Petersen endorsed Oleszek, which could spell a change for the party, as this is one step to take the leadership from Connolly.
Whatever happens, the Braddock Supervisor race will be one to watch over time, as both the Democrats are not very strong candidates. In the end, it will all be contingent on the voters in the Braddock district.

Wow. Choosing between the Gerry Connolly mafia or a moron like Janet Oleszek?
BTW, Chris Wade is not the only Connolly candidate who is a Democrat-of-convenience. Connolly’s Providence District protege Linda Smyth began her political career as the chairman of “Republicans For Connolly.”
I rate this a safe Republican district.
You are wrong suggesting Gerry Connolly recruited or is supporting Wade in Braddock. Big piece about it on Blue Virginia which you conveniently ignored to push your narrative.
And we all know what an impartial, reliable news source Blue Virginia is. Patrick, I don’t think anyone was ignoring Blue Virginia–they just don’t believe anything that is posted there.
Or, more accurately, Connolly recruited Wade (the prevalent rumor in Fairfax long before Oleszek got into the race), and then decided to start distancing himself after Wade got into trouble.
The form in which he’s distancing himself, by sending staffers to quietly pass word of his supposed “reservations” to Lowell Feld while every politician who owes their career success to him lines up behind Wade (no doubt by coincidence, I guess!) has all the look of a desperate ploy to cover his ass.
Unfortunately for Connolly, I think the author here is right. Wade isn’t even the target here – Boss Connolly is. This looks to be a direct and brazen challenge to Connolly’s leadership of the local party and, if Connolly gives up the fight without so much as a whimper, it will say an awful lot about how much clout Connolly really has now.
Carey Campbell (I) is the Independent candidate in Braddock District. Campbell is a U.S. Air Force veteran, and accountant. Campbell has a degree from the University of Maryland, European Division. Carey Campbell, the Independent candidate for Braddock District Board of supervisors, studied business, and accounting at the University of Kentucky. Campbell, while on active duty in the U.S. Air Force studied at the University of Freiburg, Germany. Carey Campbell is the Independent common sense choice for Braddock District board of Supervisor. Carey Campbell is a community leader. Carey Campbell serves on the North Springfield Civic Association Board, and is a long time PTA member. Carey Campbell is the past vice-president of the Fairfax Federation of civic associations. Campbell is co-chair of the budget and transportation committees.
Carey Campbell is the true conservative in this Braddock District race. Campbell called for the lowest property tax rate in the special election just two years ago. Campbell is relentless. Campbell, conservatively, is the champion door knocker in Braddock District. They knocked 40,000 Braddock District doors.
Want a real conservative. Vote Campbell Braddock District.
