UPDATED: Trouble in Newtland
By | Thursday, June 9th, 2011 | Politics

What does a presidential candidate do when virtually his entire campaign resigns?

Newt Gingrich’s campaign manager and numerous other key aides have resigned together . . . .

Ginrgrich press spokesman Rick Tyler told The Associated Press that he’s resigned along with campaign manager Rob Johnson, senior strategists and aides in key early primary states.

The back-story on this one ought to be interesting . . . .

UPDATE: Newt’s national co-chair, former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, has joined the Pawlenty campaign in an as-yet undefined role.

UPDATE: National Review joins J.R. (below) in predicting that most of the Gingrich campaign staff that took flight today will be going to work for Texas Governor Rick Perry, whom they predict will enter the race soon.

I would speculate that Rick Perry of Texas is about to enter the race for President.

Wow – You think Perry just raided Gingrich’s entire senior campaign staff? That would be a political mutiny on a virtually unprecedented scale!

Only time will tell. If he did, it’s very impressive.

Eh, given that Newt had one of the worst campaign roll outs in recent history, he should have fired them all.

A spoof Craigs-list ad for a new campaign team appeared, but it has since been “flagged” for removal. BOO!

It actually was the first time I visited the site – they could have gotten some great PR out of this. Oh well.

Well, Steve, that depends on who was making the final decisions on the roll-out. Reports are that after Newt’s disastrous roll-out, he ignored his senior staff recommendations for damage control campaigning and instead went on a luxury cruise of the Med with Mrs. Gingrich III. I suspect that the mass resignations are more the result of Mr. Inflamed Ego frustrating his staff and the prospect of the Gingrich campaign going down the toilet quickly. This guy is more out-of-touch and tone deaf than John Kerry ever was.

This seems like a non-story in that Gingrich wasn’t going anywhere except on a cruise. I don’t have the pulse of IA and NH primary voters but I have doubts that a Texas Gov in 2012 will sweep through those or other Midwest states. Nothing against Perry who is a decent Gov as far as I can tell. However, all the Repubs even Romney will carry Texas. The question is can Perry carry Northern states and Florida? Also the Dem ads write themselves.

is it safe to say the campaign has been Newtered?

As far as I am concerned, no newt is good newt.. But, me thinks Newt has a money problem.. he cannot meet payroll and the full time campaigners are seeing the money elsewhere. I do not care for the man as potus but I would not rule him out until after the debate on monday. He is one hell of a debater.

He never had a prayer of a chance to win anyway. People like to win, it’s hard to stay on a loosing team.

The latest name for what happened yesterday is that it was a “Newtiny.” I like it.

  12. Steve Vaughan June 10, 2011 18:07 pm

HR- Yeah, but apparently his traitous former aide are going to work for Katy Perry! I’m all about that.

  13. Steve Vaughan June 10, 2011 18:08 pm
