Democrat to Declare for 22nd Senate District
By | Sunday, June 5th, 2011 | Politics

Former Lynchburg Vice-Mayor and owner of Dodson Pest Control Company, Bert Dodson is expected to declare his candidacy for the Democratic nomination in the 22nd Senate District this coming Tuesday.

Dodson’s record on the Lynchburg city council will undoubtedly be scrutinized as he enters this race. In one of his last actions in office, he spearheaded the effort to have the precinct where the heavily conservative Liberty University students voted, moved to an inconvenient location which would have complicated efforts by civic minded students to vote.  The precinct that he supported was also opposed by advocates of the physically disabled who would have been inconvenienced as a result of the move. This proposal to move the precinct was forwarded just months before the city council elections, and many speculated that the motives for attempting to move the precinct were political in nature. The proposal was dropped after receiving strong opposition. Although this incident is smaller when compared to the large scheme of things it is an interesting commentary on how Dodson, along with some other progressives on the council have not provided the best governance that Lynchburg has to offer.

As this race heats up, it is looking to be very interesting.

That’s disappointing news. If it’s the same “Dodson Pest Control” – that’s my exterminator here in Chesapeake. Oh well. The company does a great job.

Good news for the Dodson campaign: Liberty University is not located in the 22nd District!

No, the part of Lynchburg that’s in the 22nd should turn out pretty well for Mr. Dodson. It’s turning out enough Dems in the rural parts of the district that will be a problem for him. I’m sure LU is happy to be represented by Steve Newman.
