Mizusawa Says No to 1st State Senate Run
By D.J. Spiker | Monday, May 23rd, 2011 | Politics, VirginiaBert Mizusawa announced Friday he would not pursue a run in the 1st State Senate district against John Miller. Mizusawa was the subject of a Bearing Drift article last week encouraging he and Ben Loyola to run for State Senate, with the likelihood that both men could capture their respective seats and take the majority for the Republicans through Hampton Roads alone.
Mizusawa’s statement:
General Mizusawa’s Official Statement on Virginia’s First Senate District Race:
“I am honored by the recent outpouring of encouragement and support to run for Virginia’s First Senate District. While it would be a personal privilege to serve my friends and neighbors on the Peninsula, and help achieve a conservative majority in the Senate—family and professional responsibilities prevent my full attention to a campaign this fall. I look forward to helping our outstanding candidates statewide achieve victory in November.” – Brigadier General, United States Army Reserve, Bert Mizusawa
Bert Mizusawa is an accomplished soldier, businessman, and attorney. He continues to advise key government and business leaders on economics and national security. As well, General Mizusawa holds a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and is a Brigadier General in the United States Army Reserve.

He must have higher goals than we had for him. Best of everything to you Bert! God Bless and God speed!
Echo Kathy Mateer’s sentiments. We have many that are more than capable to serve in Richmond, far fewer with US Senate potential. I hope we see the General re-emerge for the 2014 election.
What about Ben?
Heard that Ben met with Tommy Norment last week, but that’s unconfirmed.
DJ- Since Norment pushed Mickey Chohany to get into the race, I’d be surprised if he was encouraging anybody else.
