WaPo Poll: “Macaca” No Longer Hurting Allen
By | Wednesday, May 11th, 2011 | Politics

More bad news for the Dems:  A new WaPo poll shows that only 20% of voters think the “macaca” incident was “extremely important” or “very important.”

Unsurprisingly, only 10% of Republicans hold the “macaca” incident against Allen.  But significantly, only 15% of independents care about the incident.  And shockingly, only 30% of Democrats think the “macaca” incident was very important.

This is terrible news for the Democrats, even as yet another poll shows Allen and Kaine tied at this early date, before the voters learn about Kaine’s record as one of the most partisan leftist Democrats and one of the closest allies of Barack Obama in the country.

    Yeah, he was delusional.. http://www.republicanmarket.com/img/prod/l/31653.jpg

C’mon Turbo, sure we know he was thinking that way. But you also know he didn’t print that and that he wasn’t the only one hoping he’d run for the White House.

But, more than bad news for the Dems, this poll is bad news for the Washington Post. Their multiple daily articles on macaca helped sink Allen in 2006. But they’re nowhere near as influential as they used to be. Or that they still think they are.

To me, the most surprising and significant piece of this WaPo poll is that less than 1/3 of Democrats care about the “macaca” incident. But, in typical fashion, the WaPo did not prominently report this fact and only mentioned it in passing in Chris Cillizza’s blog “The Fix.” If the poll showed that large percentages of voters still cared about this issue, which has been the conventional wisdom, would the WaPo have been so silent?

Michael is correct about WAPO but I think time also lends perspective and people see that incident for what it was. Not that Allen’s inept response didn’t contribute to his defeat. I have heard the same thing already from Dem leaning independents. I strongly assume Obama will lose VA and take down Kaine with him.

Perhaps over time everyone understands they all need to give grace, mercy and forgiveness in order to receive it. No one’s perfect. Allen at this point is the one to beat. Kaine won’t come close.

I must admit I am impressed and really like some of the other candidates, they just don’t have the name recognition yet to beat Kaine.

When the race starts, the media/public reminders will begin and the issue will be a factor once again… Right now, its “out of sight and out of mind” so one would expect it not to be on the minds of voters in any current poll.

The Libs have so over played the race card, most now see it for what it is. Kaine and the Libs will try to use it again, but it won’t work this time.

“Macaca” itself isn’t Allen’s problem. It’s the long list of incidents of racial insensitivity in his past that that incident brought out in the open. If Republicans don’t think those things are going to come up again, that’s just wishful thinking.

Macaca.. Allen might as well have been at a white power torching event pretending he is from the south when he called Sidarth the French African equivalent of nigger..

We cannot afford to put up someone who racially slanders others with name calling.. not in this day and age. One has to wonder what he is really thinking when he addresses people of color. Pandering to presumed bigots in the audience is ugly and that is what it appears Allen was caught doing on camera repeatedly.

Images of the confederate flag and lynching noose were props to buy southern creds but this ole california boys outed himself as disingenuous.
