Former Delegate Candidate John Amiral Running for 6th State Senate
By | Monday, May 9th, 2011 | Politics, Virginia

In one of the first announced Republican challengers in Hampton Roads, Bearing Drift has learned that John Amiral, former candidate in 2009 for the 87th House district, intends to seek the Republican nomination for the 6th State Senate district to challenge Ralph Northam. Previously indicating his intent to run for the 87th House again, with the elimination of the seat, Amiral has focused on the as of yet unchallenged seat of Northam, in office since 2007.

    This should be interesting

    So I guess in this world if you lose one race in a clear wave then that qualifies you to take the next step to run for a higher office.

    @Seriously,
    So everyone who fails once should just never try again? Also, the voter base is slightly different. I suppose everyone could just agree not to challenge those who are “guaranteed” to win.

    Sounds like Steve Hunt in Fairfax.

    I don’t have a problem with someone running a second time. I have a problem with a candidate who shops around a phony poll showing a dead heat and then losing by double digits.

    Wasn’t Amiral the one who went missing after the election?

    Amiral? Doesn’t pay his bills, changed his name so it would be more American to voters, used fake poll numbers (probably real numbers – just didn’t know how to explain them or his universe)…

    To his credit, he loves America, has a smoking hot wife, and is ready to lose again.

    How about not running it if we don’t have a viable candidate. Clearly he won’t win and I don’t like the idea of poisoning the well if we have a candidate next cycle who could credibly challenge Northam.

    I don’t like someone who lies, goes through staff like there’s no tomorrow and then skips out on his bills.

    Let’s hope someone else steps up to the plate that the people of Norfolk and the Shore can get behind fully.

    All:

    Relax. I have been hearing word of other candidates in the Norfolk for the 6th Senate seat. Amiral has a right to run for the seat, just as anybody else does. It will be up to the Republicans in the 6th Senate District to determine who will represent them on the ballot and I believe they will have more than one choice.

    Stay tuned…

    I heard that Amiral was making phone calls to those “other” candidates today to size them up. If Amiral can get Republican party support then he may be the one. If not then it could be a messy primary.
