More Northern Virginia House Races – Loudoun and Prince William

BD has already highlighted several Northern Virginia House and Senate races. I’ll take a closer look here at Loudoun and Prince William counties. While last year’s census showed Virginia experienced 13% population growth overall, these counties exploded. Loudoun grew by 84% since 2000 and Prince William grew by 43%, making these the two fastest growing counties in the Commonwealth.

The growth fueled massive changes in district lines.

Looking at the House:

86th – Tom Rust (R)
Rust has only two precincts left in Loudoun County. He almost solely represents Fairfax now, where he has gained several precincts. He has no announced opposition at this point.

87th – Open
This new district is dominated by Loudoun precincts. Republicans David Ramadan and Jo Ann Chase have already announced for the race, and it is rumored that former Vice Chairman of the Loudoun Board of Supervisors, Bruce Tulloch, may also seek the Republican nomination. Ramadan is a businessman who has begun an aggressive issue-focused campaign. His announcement of candidacy at the March Loudoun County Republican Committee meeting was greeted by anti-Shariah law protesters from outside of the committee. Chase has less committee support but has actively worked to cultivate a base within the Tea Party. Mike Kondratick, a professional community organizer, currently employed with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, has filed for the Democratic nomination.

32nd – Tag Greason (R)
Greason brought George Allen in for a well-attended fundraiser last week. No Democrat has filed for the seat yet.

10th – Open
The new 10th district stretches across three counties: from Leesburg to lower Ashburn and St. Louis in Loudoun, and then taking in the southern half of Clarke county before reaching up to the border of Winchester City in Frederick County. John Whitbeck, attorney and former judge is seeking the Republican nomination for the seat and has already garnered many important endorsements. If nominated by the GOP, Whitbeck could face Democrat Jim Magner or Leesburg councilman Dave Butler in the general election.

33rd – Joe May (R)
The 33rd district picks up 5 precincts in Frederick County, retains the Northern half of Clarke County and takes in Northwestern Loudoun County from Round Hill to Leesburg. So far, no one has announced against incumbent Republican Joe May.

13th – Bob Marshall (R)
Marshall faces a bluer district, having lost his Loudoun precincts and picked up Manassas Park precincts. No Democrat has yet declared against him.

40th – Tim Hugo (R)
Hugo’s Fairfax District has picked up several Prince William precincts, making it even brighter red than it was before. No Democrat has yet declared against him.

67th – Jim LeMunyon (R)
The 67th is Fairfax focused, with only 2 Loudoun precincts. Leading into the 2011 campaign season, LeMunyon has over $100,000 on hand and no Democrat has yet declared against him.

50th – Jackson Miller (R)
The 50th has moved slightly south and west, losing parts of Manassas Park City. No Democrat has yet declared against Miller.

51st – Rich Anderson (R)
The 51st is entirely in Prince William County. No Democrat has yet declared against Anderson, however, weak cash-on-hand numbers seem to invite opposition for this freshman legislator.

31st – Scott Lingamfelter (R)
The 31st is heavy on Prince William precincts, but also stretches into Fauquier County. No Democrat has yet declared against Lingamfelter.

UPDATE
2nd – Open
The new 2nd district covers parts of Prince William and Stafford counties. So far, only Stafford County Supervisor Mark Dudenhefer, a Republican, has announced for the seat.
