The One Where We Agree with Senator Mark Warner
By Michael Fletcher | Sunday, April 10th, 2011 | Policy
Quoted in The Richmond Times-Dispatch today, Senator Mark Warner said Friday was a “pretty embarrassing day for the Congress and for the country.”
Yes, yes it was.
But not for the reasons you think Senator.
CNS News reports that:
The federal debt increased $54.1 billion in the eight days preceding the deal made by President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) and House Speaker John Boehner (R.-Ohio) to cut $38.5 billion in federal spending for the remainder of fiscal year 2011, which runs through September.
So, great that the parks didn’t close and that our military got paid (seriously).
But, come Monday morning, there’s only one question that must be asked.
What are you going to cut next?

What is Sen Warner going to cut next?
I would say more trees for the money he and the Dems will print.
I don’t think the composition of US Currency has tree based paper, or least its not its principal ingredient.
Wait until Obama releases his deficit reduction measures. I can’t wait to see what you all have to say about his cuts. Cat got your tongue?

Obama has already delivered his deficit reduction speech any number of times; not only as President but while he was campaigning. That’s all it is – a speech. I’ve said elsewhere that leftists exclusively worry about gamesmanship. Your post is illustrative. His 2012 budget released just a few months ago had no noticeable deficit reduction. Where were your complaints? His own bipartisan debt commission was ignored. Where were your complaints? His supporters have been dutifully running around the past few weeks saying the debt and deficits are no big deal. So what happened?
And so have any number of Tea Party/Republican/Conservatives; look where those plans have gone-just a bunch of speeches. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks.
You are correct about not enough complaints on President Obama’s lack of deficit reduction; however, I’m in line with the economists who don’t see cutting domestic spending during a recession as a good idea. Not to say there aren’t ares to be trimmed or cut outright. I also prefer to look at spending as a whole and realize that the military, social security, and medicare are the majority of the budget woes, not Planned Parenthood and NPR.
But if we’re gonna go back in time where were you during President Regan’s budget cutting or President Bush’s massive deficit spending? I’m guessing you were there when President Clinton balanced the budget and grew the economy with the help of a Republican House. If you want to look back in time, let’s take a good hard look.
And yes, you use of the term “leftist” really leaves you out of the running for the gamesmanship trophy.
