McDonnell Weekly R Address, Worth Hearing
By Jane Dudley | Saturday, March 26th, 2011 | Catch-All
Gov. Bob McDonnell has done this week’s National Weekly Republican Address, and it’s very well done. Apparently taped in the Governor’s Mansion, with a painting of George Washington at his shoulder, McDonnell speaks for six minutes, and says among other things:
We all have to balance our budgets. We can’t print money.
When I took office we faced historic budget deficits of 6 billion dollars here in Virginia, and we closed those deficits by cutting spending, not raising taxes.
We’ve acted in a fiscally responsible manner here in Richmond,
and that’s what Republican governors from Madison to Austin, and Tallahassee to Albuquerque are doing right now.
He says these accomplishments are at risk of being undermined by the “unrealistic and irresponsible policies” coming from Washington, most particularly, health care.
The more spending required for medicaid entitlements, the less money available for roads, schools, law enforcement, and higher education.
The more mandates on employers, the less jobs they can create.
Of the health care bill passed last year, he says, “But now, the very same admin that was in such a rush to pass this bill, is in on hurry to find out if it’s legal!” McDonnell recommends: repeal it and use free-market solutions, several of which he lists.
The address is well written, well lit, well delivered, and looks very good, even on YouTube at 360p.

Thanks, I listened to the whole thing.
I particularly liked this part:
“Regardless of party, we should all agree that the sooner we know if the law is constitutional, the better for the American People.”
This quote comes at about 4:30 into the clip. Almost immediately after he launches into all the inadequate Republican ideas for controlling health care costs. He relies heavily on all we need to do is rely on the free market to solve the problems. Isn’t the wild free market part of the cause of the spiraling health care cost increases?
But, “Regardless of party, we should all agree…” and I agree with him. Before we go much further down the road Obama has us on, we need to know if it is even legal for us to be on that road.
