Rep. Bobby Scott Officially Considering Senate Bid

Last week, we touched on the Governor Wilder stirring unrest within the state Democratic Party, complaining that Bobby Scott had not gotten his just consideration. Scott’s spokesman said nothing was being ruled out.

Today, our buddy at the Virginian-Pilot, Bill Bartel, spoke to Bobby Scott in person. Scott personally indicated he was considering the seat due essentially to his boredom in the House.

Apparently, Scott is frustrated now with the Republican majority and unless there’s a significant anti-Republican movement that would allow the Democrats to retake the House next year (not likely) then he feels his seniority would be better served in the Senate.

That being said, he said there in no urgency and that it would likely be July until any announcement.

Given that to this point the Democratic talking point has been Tim Kaine is our guy hell or high water (which would be great for the Republicans), the notion of an intraparty battle between two men who have no chance at winning in November 2012?

It’s a great time to be a Republican in Virginia.
