Your Daily Bracket: Report from the NCAA Tournament
By | Saturday, March 19th, 2011 | Sports

First and foremost, VCU beat Georgetown, 74-56, and George Mason beat Villanova, 61-57. This is good for Virginia, as three teams (Richmond will face Morehead State today) will advance further in the tournament. Another Virginia team, Hampton, was not so lucky as they lost to Duke, 87-45.

Hampton had a hard time trying to keep up with Duke throughout the game. Duke’s strength is their speed and agility. When you combine the two, it is hard for teams to catch up to them on the court. I think this is where Hampton ran into difficulty.

As for George Mason, it took a rally at the end to result in victory. Mason has a great team, but they are going to need to step it up against Ohio State’s strength and agility. Mason trailed by 10 points in the first half to Villanova, only to come back at the end with a 3-pointer by Luke Hancock.

On the other hand, VCU dominated and outscored Georgetown last night. VCU’s speed and great defensive plays held Georgetown’s leading scorer, Austin Freeman, to 10 points. Freeman was also 0-16 in three point attempts, which is highly unusual. VCU was led by Brandon Rozzell, who scored six 3-pointers and had 26 points.

Overall, there has been a lot of success for Virginia teams in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Will this momentum continue? Stay tuned for daily updates from Your Daily Bracket. Also, if you want to keep tabs on the Bearing Drift Challenge, click here and the password is vpod.

Heck yea! A George Mason Patriot win over Villanova is big win. Rally or not. You’re right, though. Mason will need to dig deep and put it all out there against Ohio State.

The Richmond game might be interesting against Moorehead St.

I’m really happy for the VCU fans. Evidently the ESPN folks were poo-poing VCU big time. Sweet satisfaction for them as the put a beat down on Georgetown!

Good stuff, and yes, good for Virginia!
