House defunds NPR – Every Democrat opposes
By Brian Kirwin | Friday, March 18th, 2011 | PolicyThe US House of Representatives voted to end funding for National Public Radio, despite unilateral whining by Democrats that without taxpayer money, NPR programming would stop airing completely.
Translation: NPR programming is so unpopular, no one would pay to advertise or listen to it.
That every single warm-blooded Democrat voted NO tells you how serious these loons are about cutting government spending. They can’t stop funding radio shows.
How in heaven’s name do we expect them to do anything about social security, medicare, and other huge budget items if they can’t agree to stop buying radio shows.
“This bill would pull the plug,” said Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass. “It would snuff out stations from coast to coast, many in rural areas where the public radio station is the primary source of news and information.”
Ed Markey’s net worth is about $10 million, so he can whip out his checkbook all he wants to help whatever station he wants.
And Markey, rural areas are about as conservative as they can get. I bet 10 times your 10 million they are NOT listening to NPR.

Now, the Democrats run the Senate, so stopping NPR funding might not get much farther…unless……
Sen. Mark Warner, who says we need to get serious about balancing the budget, actually votes to match his words.
Serious enough to be a “radical centrist” and cut this unneeded spending?
Will Mark Warner stand up to his Party ONE time?

Except that they actually do. Which is why the public subsidy really isn’t necessary. Because there’s an alternative source, in a lot of cases an alternative free source, for everything on NPR.
When most people only had three television stations and maybe six radio stations, about 2 top 40, 2 county, one easy listening and one oldies, there was some sense in subsidizing public broadcasting. Now, when everybody has as many television stations and radio stations as they feel like paying for, there really isn’t.
Then why would Democrats insist on giving them money they don’t need?
I just think its hilarious what’s always up to be cut. The first things to get cut are the programs and items that aren’t responsible for the crisis in the first place.
Don’t get me wrong, Democrats do plenty to disgust me politically and personally. But on both sides its a bit ridiculous.
My Navy family and Navy friends have an undo stress that unless our elected officials can get something right real soon, they won’t get paid and can’t pay their bills for serving their country. Cut, cut, cut, cut and cut out again spending or you will be replaced. By the military voters.
