Rep. Scott Rigell Votes Against CR, Calls for Sessions Everyday to Address Crisis
By | Wednesday, March 16th, 2011 | Policy

Having served in Congress for three months now, Representative Scott Rigell has taken some flack from impatient local Tea Party and libertarian groups for some of his votes. Despite that, Rigell has extensively used his facebook group to explain and solicit feedback from his constituents.

With the most recent CR resolution, Rigell not only joined the ‘freshmen revolt’, voting against the continuing CR resolution after seeing firsthand the process after the issues coming from the Senate, he took it a step further. Rigell is calling for the House to serve the constituents of the United States seven days as a week, “because I consider this to be a true, fiscal budgetary crisis, and your calendar reflects your priorities. I think we should be here, in the House seven days a week, until we address this.”

View his full message to constituents and facebook users here:

Interested constituents can also interact with Congressman Rigell this coming Monday for his second town-hall, at Azalea Middle School in Norfolk. (link to facebook event)

Let the attacks on Scott Rigell begin!

I like it. Good point too “your calendar reflects your priorities.”

Thanks, Scott. The district is fully behind your efforts to cut spending. I know it was tough to vote against the leadership, but that shows your independence! I am glad we have a representative that would buck the party for solid conservative principles. That is what this country needs.

Thank you Scott for serving your Constituents not the power bosses in DC. It showed integrity, courage and honor.

My only concern is that the focus not shift from fixing the root cause of our fiscal crisis to passing any excuse for budget, so people can go home and stop working 7 days a week. What is the objective? Passing a budget or passing a budget of corrective actions?

I don’t oppose his vote. Whatever it takes to right the ship. Continual Resolutions or temporary shut downs, do what has to be done.

I’ve been a harsh critic of Scott and hammered him throughout the campaign. The past is behind and I will leave it there as long as Scott shows the gonads it takes to hammer CR’s down tight. Good job Mr. Congressman.

Scott Rigell is a man I can respect. I think of the famous phrase “The buck stops here” now. We really do spend our time on what we care about or feel responsible to. He obviously feels responsible to who voted him into office to do his job to balance our Federal budget.

From the posts, there appears to be nothing but accolades for Congressman Rigell…Impressive! I’m not sure that was the intent of the piece. It’s a shame that there are some who still don’t get it.

Who doesn’t get it? Sounds like you don’t get it! Got it?

Accolade on the CR.. NOT The patriot act.

  11. Britt Howard March 17, 2011 21:36 pm

Gaurded accolade on the CR, stern rebuke on the Patriot Act.

    Ron,
How I read the piece was a lecture to Scott Rigell for caving to the freshman revolt, impatient Tea Party and Libertarians. But rather than respond with discontent with Scott Rigell for doing such a freshman mistake (as DJ sees it), people cheered his actions.

We currently have a $1.6T deficit; $14T debt and the Democrats have “NO” intentions of cutting the budget. It is time to start having this discussion about making cuts. We are about to vote on raising the debt ceiling and our Republicans suck at the PR campaign. Have we never learned about appeasement because we’re getting a big lesson right now but DJ champions this appeasement mentality? It is time to have these discussions…

Yes…I get it quite well! Get that?

Finally, someone in Washington is doing what they promised. When Scott Rigell went to DC, he told the 2nd District that he would to work to cut spending, and his vote on HR 1 shows his resolve. We can not wait another day to address the national debt, and if serious action is not taken the debt will grow out of control. Thank you Scott, for standing up to the establishment and saying No. Someone has to ask when the madness will stop and the hard work will begin.

    Sir,
We are so proud of you for standing up for both your personal convictions and the interests of your constituents in the 2nd District. Thank you for your couragous vote on the budget bill and continued support of budget and debt reductions.
Regarding your support of extending the Patriot Act; I suppose we will have to agree to disagree.

“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
    Benjamin Franklin

This in no way, however, affects my great pride in, and total support of your efforts. Thank you for a tough job well done!
    Semper Fi,
    Jim Boone
