State revenues up 16.7% in February
By | Tuesday, March 15th, 2011 | Policy

Kudos to the McDonnell administration and the House Republican Caucus. State revenues were up 16.7% last month.

“We are continuing to see clear signs that Virginia’s economy has begun to turn the corner. Last week, we announced that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Virginia has fallen to a two-year low. Today, we are announcing another month of positive revenue numbers. The economic trend in the Commonwealth is positive and it is increasingly consistent,” said Governor Bob McDonnell in a release. “Of course macro-numbers announced in Richmond don’t mean anything to a family in Roanoke struggling to pay their bills. While we recognize the recent good news, we cannot lose sight of the fact that this recovery is still fragile and early. Until every Virginian can find a good-paying job to support their family, our work is not over.”

About a year ago, another governor (the part-time one, but full-time Obama cheerleader) wanted to saddle Virginia with what would have been the largest tax increase in our history – something that was even bucked by the Senate Democratic majority.

Who was that guy and what does he want to do now? That’s right – your next Democratic nominee for U.S. Senator: Tim Kaine.

It’s nice to see that balancing the budget, not spending more than you take in, creating conditions for business growth and opportunity, etc. are alive and well in Virginia under the watch of Gov. McDonnell and Speaker of the House Bill Howell (R-Stafford).

Hopefully this can become a national trend.

Hey Timmy, have you seen these numbers? I know the National Dems. want you out for your amazing performance in 2010. But I’d think really hard if I were you about returning to this Commonwealth to run for Senate. Your attempt at the largest tax increase in Virginia’s history (typical democrat) plus embarrassing Virginia’s citizens with tourists by closing our Rest Areas on the Interstates motivates thousands of Virginians like me to want to vote in 2012 … against YOU!!!!

Great news (unless your name is Kaine!). The Feds should take note of this recipe…

Not to split hairs, but I wasn’t crazy about the press release’s closing sentence:

“Until every Virginian can find a good-paying job to support their family, our work is not over.”

Why not a good-paying job, a really nice car, and a huge house…with a pool?

I’d rather it said something like “with continued pro-business policies and lower personal taxes, all Virginians will be able to reach their full potential…THEN our work will be over.” Okay, I’m obviously not a speechwriter…
