Mike Thomas (left) and Linwood Cobb (right) look on as Del. Bob Marshall is introduced during the 2008 RPV Convention.

Party like it’s 1993!

George Allen, re-candidate for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate in 2012, has named his 1993 gubernatorial campaign manager, Mike Thomas, to reprise the role.

“Mike has the necessary experience and personal knowledge of Virginia, its people, and our values to lead our grassroots insurgency. His addition makes our team even stronger, and together we will build a campaign focused on bringing Virginia’s voices, views and values back to the U.S. Senate.”

In other words, he’s an ass-kicker.

Naming Thomas, a senior VP at McGuireWoods (stepping-down) and vice chair of the Republican Party of Virginia, shows Allen is dead serious about this nomination fight and will take no prisoners.

Mike Thomas is one of the best in the state. All indicators show that efforts to defeat Allen in the primary are futile. Placing Mike Thomas in charge of the campaign should put him in a very good position to win the general election and avoid the mistakes of 2006.

On top of being effective & professional, Mike Thomas is also a helluva nice man.

This is an incredibly good sign. Also shows a lot of confidence that Allen is deadly serious about this race — this is not a lark, it’s a street fight for Jeffersonian conservative values.

    It is on.

This is exactly the kind of person Allen needed for this job. As much energy as there was in ’93; it will be dwarfed by what’s coming! Go George Go!

I think it shows he’s taking the general election more seriously than he took his re-election bid against Webb in 2006. He figured that was a cakewalk so it didnt’ matter if he had a dunce running his campaign. Thomas is part of the original down and dirty “A Team.”

Mr. Thomas is a class act with all the common sense this needs.

Mr. Thomas, Please remind George about the three core principals of the Tea Party Movement next time he claims the movement supports him.. fiscal responsibility, free markets and constitutionally limited government. This is what your guy preached so clearly but his actions indicate he did not consistently vote.

Mike, may I ask why did George have problems voting with these three core Tea Party movement principals last round?

..and Mike, Please ask George to clarify if he agrees the GOP Pledge to America which promised to slash $100 billion yet only came up with $57 billion in cuts is conservative enough for him. For that matter, how much does George claim is enough to balance our budget within a reasonable timeframe.. and What is a Reasonable time frame?

I’d like to know, and haven’t heard an answer: will Thomas need to resign his post with the RPV? Also, what candidate announces for public office but lacks a campaign manager?
