Newt Goes Exploring
By Brian Kirwin | Monday, March 7th, 2011 | PoliticsI don’t think there’s any doubt that Newt Gingrich will be running for President, but for now he’s only launched an exploratory committee.
ECs are basically water-testers to see how early fundraising goes. Very few ECs do not translate into candidacies, so it’s likely this one will.
Newt has one major theme. Since he bowed out in 1998, he can run against the debt and deficit run up since then and say he left office with the budget balanced, and now look what they did since he left.
Here is his announcement that I received:
You are one of my closest supporters. So, I wanted to make sure you heard the news. I have decided to explore running for president.
Over the last year I’ve watched a failure in leadership, and have spent a lot of time thinking and praying about taking the first step. I am writing you to ask for your advice, as Callista and I consider whether or not I should run in 2012.
What I need to do right now is listen to and learn from people all across America. I need to be certain that if I run, my candidacy will have the support it will need to make a positive difference for our nation. However, I can’t do it alone. What I am hoping you will do is help me and support me during this exploratory process.
I have asked a lot from you over the years. In return you have humbled me by demonstrating your talent, energy, and financial sacrifice that reflect how deeply you and others like you, care about our nation. You are an indispensable part of helping me decide what to do next, and I have to tell you, I need you now more than ever before. If I run, this will be the single biggest challenge we’ve ever faced together. So, success depends entirely upon you. I want to hear from you. I need to hear from you. So let me ask you:
1. Would you support my candidacy if I were to run for President?
2. Will you support my exploratory effort with a financial contribution
of $35, $50, $100, or even more at this vitally important early
“Newt Explore 2012″ stage today?I am convinced that the 2012 election is the best opportunity to realize all we have worked for together over all the past years. We must move from the world that fails — to the world that works. The time is now to reject the Left’s ideas, and replace them with better ideas; ideas that fulfill our bigger dreams for ourselves, our families and our country.
Now is the time. I need your help. I need to know if you believe I could run and serve effectively as President of the United States. And I need to know today. I am waiting to hear from you.
Your friend,
Newt Gingrich

Newt has his big toe in the water to test the temperature and his finger in the wind to find out which way it is blowing. Brilliant man, great tactician and I hope he uses this time during his EC to productively strategize how to handle ka-ka that the vicious and vile opposition is going to pull forward from his past and throw at him.
Is there anyone who is excited about this?
…anyone?
Unfortunately for Newt what people remember is the govt shutdown that backfired on him, not the resulting spending constraints that boxed in Clinton and the Dems like a size 6 shoe on a size 12 foot. This is more the fault of the Repubs who simply don’t know how to fight back the leftist smear machine and won’t let the NRA instruct them. Newt also has rather strange lapses in political and personal judgment like Dede and hanging out with Pelosi etc. These are his doing. In general legislators do not make good presidents (Obama is a classic example)or even candidates (Obama was a good candidate simply because he rarely deviated from the teleprompter and lied lied lied with a straight face.)
The Repubs need to frame the election as a choice between the Chicago machine (and IL) and the rest of the country. Rahm Emanuel is the perfect symbol. He “decides” he would like to be mayor, the machine approves, has the courts waive the statutes and the machine “delivers” the votes. The voters are not needed. In the process IL is raising taxes and going bankrupt. With the machine, cronies will get the money or the exemptions and the outsiders will pay for it. Isn’t this the Obama Admin to a tee?
As memory serves me, wasn’t Newt cheating on his wife and porking a much younger subordinate staffer on the side while excoriating Bill Clinton for doing the same thing? Surely the Republicans can field a candidate who meets higher moral standards than Slick Willie, not to mention one who isn’t such a blatant hypocrite.
Newt is a great ideas guy, and a great tactician. He would also be horrible candidate and the part where his money appeal notice says he has been “humbled” by your support is laughable to cartoon status. No way.
HisRoc, for Newt to discuss divorce with his wife while she is in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery goes deeper than narcissistic sexual addictions to adultery. It goes deeper than hypocrisy. It shows me he has no compassion or empathy whatsoever. I don’t want someone like that representing me as President.
HR-Right. I don’t see anyone clamoring for John Edwards to be president. With the exception of the kid, I don’t see much that seperates what Edwards did from what Newt did.
