Is Left-Wing Violence Merely Goading Republicans?
By Shaun Kenney | Sunday, February 27th, 2011 | PoliticsYou guys ready for the craziest of the crazy?
J.C. Wilmore is a fairly well known bombast blogger from the Richmond area… and let me tell you, he has an opinion on Republicans this morning, in what started out as a fairly friendly give-and-take with Terry Rea over at the always awesome Slant Blog:
Let me give you the zoom in, just to show you how extra special crazy this fella is:
Let’s be clear about this. We’re talking about one of the mainstream bloggers in Virginia… who seriously believes this.
I kid you not.
Of course, this is nothing new for the right. Accused of violence, that only makes actions such as these permissible from union Sturmabteilung:
And rhetoric such as this foaming-at-the-mouth socialist, perfectly OK:
So here’s the meme: Republicans are violent. All Republicans, not just a handful. Ergo, that makes it perfectly OK to throw people around, punch, harass, bruise, and otherwise harass Republicans. Don’t use baseball bats (as the gentleman above is clear — that’s violence — just throwing punches isn’t violent behavior), because deep down, Republicans really want to use their guns on you.
Is this the nonsense the mainstream left is convincing themselves of?
And more seriously, when are the voices within the left going to start actively, vocally condemning this sort of behavior?
I can tell you what’s going to happen. Eventually, union thugs are going to push things too far. They are going to beat the hell out of someone, and that will convince others to protect themselves. Which fits nicely into the meme… but will become –as they intend it should — a self fulfilling prophecy.
The left has done a remarkable job at getting the right to condemn violence. It’s time for this to be done in turn. Should it not be done, then I readily assert that violence is what the mainstream left wants. Let’s face it — it’s been in the DNA of ’60s radicals since the Vietnam War era. Remember this?
That’s who’s telling us that Republicans are the violent ones. Sound like a civil society to you? Or threatening speech?
So which is true? Is J.C. Wilmore right? Or are there voices on the left who are willing to unambiguously condemn this sort of behavior in a consistent and clear manner — without equivocation or hesitancy?

You’re absolutely right, Shaun. Which is why I was so angry when the left blamed us for “angry rhetoric” that they erroneously claimed led to the tragedy in Tuscon.
There are people who take it too far on both sides of the aisle, and anyone who – with a straight face – claims that their political opponents would want to recreate Auschwitz here in America simply because they disagree is seriously deranged.
That level of hyperbole is completely unacceptable.
I would like to reject notion that J.C. Wilmore is mainstream. However, if the people they have been electing is any indication, getting the left to condemn the violence committed by people on their own side will not be easy.
What is this post raises is why honor is so important to the political life of a people. If the vast majority does not honor a shared code of conduct, then that people cannot maintain a civil society.
Consider the necessity of war tribunals in a war zone. If an individual on one side of a conflict commits a war crime against someone on the other side, what is the chance you will get an impartial jury that includes members from both sides?
The civil society requires everyone to believe they can and will be treated fairly by most of the members of that society. Yet our political debates have become rancid with stupid hatred. We listen too much to insane agitators full of phony grievances. Our overpromising politicians condemns as evil anyone who stands in the way of their newfound rights (collective bargaining, for example). Our schools do a wretched job of teaching history. Parents and churches provide too little instruction in ethics — what use to be regarded as good manners and plain honesty.
So we are slowly reaching the point we are no longer think of our fellow Americans as neighbors. Instead, our leaders slyly divide us into xenophobic identity groups. Soon we will be ripe for tyranny.
Well said, Brian and Tom. Very well said.
Leftists often practice “projection” of their own anger, dirty tactics, political flimflammery on to their opponents. Sometimes it’s unconscious, sometimes just a cynical tactic to confuse things. For example in Wisconsin the Senate Dems have been called cowards for fleeing the state. So what did Wisconsin House Dems call the Repubs when they passed the budget? “Cowards” of course even though it made no sense in context. What is important to recognize is that the Dems and leftists behavior is predicated on media control. This control is both to uniformly define the opponent and just as important shield the leftists from any hard questions or comments. This is why they will exert every effort to wipe out Fox, talk radio etc.
Tom,
Delighted to read your post, always happy to see I’m not the only one who isn’t fooled by the phony left-right thing.
Jamie – Thank you for the compliment.

Hate to say it but Wisconsin is guaranteed Democrat for 2012 campaign and on.
And if the Republicans continue on their so-called high road, they’ll continue to loss other states. If Walker’s going to do this, he needs to do it rather than drag it out as the unions and media conduct their recruitment campaign.
I wonder, John, how they’re going to pay for it, if Walker succeeds and defunds the far Left of all of its ill-gotten gain?
James,
We fund these organizations. …Community organizations have planted their seeds and their tentacles run deep.
While visiting William and Mary, I picked up a student magazine (www.dogstreetjournal.com) where they have a coalition fighting for higher wages for their housekeepers. Check out November’s 2010 article titled “The Fight For Living Wages.”
Every link opened 10 more organizations. In addition to Living Wage Coalition (www.livingwageaction.org/about_index.htm) (NOTE: Read the Goals), the more activist groups I came up including Student Labor Activist Group (www.studentlabor.org), United Students Against Sweatshops (www.usas.org) and Workers Rights Consortium (www.workersrights.org). Most of these groups were started around 2005 and have ties to ACORN, Planned Parenthood and even the NAACP.
Then we have the other Community organizations such as “Center for Community Change” (www.communitychange.org), American Rights at Work (www.americanrightsatwork.org) and Jobs with Justice (http://jwj.org) that advocate workers rights.
It would not be so bad if these college students did not heckle a disabled war vet at Columbia U… It’s a shame that a fellow DISABLED vet be treated like this by kids. It is a shame that our youth is being taught the techniques of community organizing and our minion media have allowed these community activist groups to do this. (http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/hero_unwelcome_Zi3u1fwtRpo87vXAiAQfSN).
I wish it was a funding thing but it is not. It is a recruiting project and the longer these Republicans prolong these initiatives, the more recruiting these activist groups continue and the Democrats are playing along. I’m not saying cave in but find the quickest way to complete these initiatives. Why would the Democrats in two states run and prolong the process?
And don’t get me going on the Kalamazoo Promise (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egbuFWEC4tM). This video is just sick. As Murphy Oil Corporation is only committed for 20 years, so who is going to pick up the tab for free college education when Murphy pulls out. They are in partnership with the local government. Guess who’s paying for free college… There are people advocating for this initiative in Hampton Roads but this is an entirely different subject.
In my opinion, the next bubble is going to be a “Youth Bubble” and that bubble will strike back. Look who’s at the forefront of all these other revolutions around the world? The Youth. and who is in the background…community organizations.
