By | Friday, February 25th, 2011 | Politics

Delegate Pollard is announcing his retirement as we speak on the House floor, making the 99th District an open seat and winnable for the Republicans this November.

Say it with me now:

Anyone but Crabill!

Margaret Bevans Ransone now has a clear run for the seat. Go Margaret!

There’s talk that Pollard may have left the House, but not neccesarilly the General Assembly. A Senate district may be tailored for him in redistricting.

We debated that via email, Pollard apparently made it clear he was done for good, don’t remember when or where he said that

With quotes like this, I think seeking another office is going to be difficult for him:

“I feel comfortable I could win re-election,” Pollard said. “[But] you shouldn’t run for office just because you can win. You run to serve. I simply have no desire to make this my career.”

Yeah, I saw the quotes too. But then I’m still hearing the other thing. Maybe the Senate wants him more than he wants them.

Pollard may not be done for good. But it sounds like to me he’s done for the short term. Maybe he comes back in four years

Margaret doesn’t have THAT clear of a run…she is up against some good republicans, as well as a democrat, for that seat.
