Virginia Beach attorney David McCormick announced Tuesday he intended to run for the U.S. Senate Republican nomination in Virginia. This announcement, sent to Bearing Drift and media via press release in the email, linked to his website, www.davidmccormicksenate.com, which features some loosely sketched policy positions and a cute ‘Kids Korner’ about spending in Washington. McCormick has been involved with the Virginia Beach City Committee, including heading the 120 Club (large monthly donor program) and serving on the Finance Committee. McCormick is the son of a 30-year-veteran of the Air Force and has lived in 10 states and two continents, he worked with UPS for more than 13 years before entering law school at Regent University and is a longtime Republican activist. He cites “ineffective and immoral leadership in our Capitol” as one of his many reasons for his entering the race. McCormick has practiced law for nearly a decade, with two offices in the Hampton Roads area.
This announcement adds to a field becoming more and more crowded. McCormick joins former Governor and Senator George Allen and former Virginia Tea Party coordinator Jamie Radtke as announced candidates. Bishop Jackson has not formally announced but has indicated numerous times he is running, as has Prince William Board of Supervisor Chairman Corey Stewart. Waiting on the sidelines is Delegate Bob Marshall (rumored to be leaning against a run), Bert Mizusawa (awaiting someone else’s decision) and in a rumor that moved around in 2009 has restarted, that Representative Rob Wittman of the 1st District is contemplating a run.
A crowded field to be sure, and who knows who else might jump in at this point.

He chose today, February 22nd, to announce his bid, because he felt the day symbolizes the American Dream.
“Today, we celebrate the birthday of one of our great leaders, George Washington, said McCormick. “Against all odds, he led a small American regiment against a much bigger army whose government had become unresponsive, overreaching and intrusive.”
He also noted that the Miracle on Ice, America’s defeat of the Russian hockey team in 1980, also happened on this date.
McCormick is running to Reform our Government, Reignite our Economy, and Restore America’s Might and to turn up the HEAT on Washington.
HEAT (Honesty, Efficiency, Accountability and Thriftiness) is what we need to get America back on the right track.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi, my name is David McCormick and today I am announcing my candidacy for the United States Senate.
I grew up in a military family and have a deep love for America and her values. We have been led by so many inspired and courageous leaders. Today, we celebrate the birthday of one of our great leaders, George Washington. Against all odds, he led a small American regiment against a much bigger army whose government had become unresponsive, overreaching and intrusive.
Today, our Nation faces some of its greatest challenges. Financially, we are on the very brink of Bankruptcy and 15 million Americans are unemployed. Who led us to this point? I believe the answer is ineffective, and in many cases, immoral leadership in our capital.
There are many that have written off America and her ability to rebound from the conditions we find ourselves in. I beg to differ. I have met too many wonderful people, in the thousands, that still have a great love for our nation, will not give up on America, and will not stop praying.
In another time and another arena, most of the world had written off the USA Olympic hockey team when they faced the Russian team for the chance to play for the Gold Medal. But some young optimistic American players, along with an inspired coach, truly believed in themselves and who with guts, hard work, and inspired play upset the Russians and went on to win the Gold Medal. The greatest of upsets, now called the Miracle on Ice, happened on George Washington’s birthday in Lake Placid, New York in 1980.
With the same type of dedication and commitment, we can get America moving again but we will need the right leaders in Washington that will work towards greatly reducing the size, the scope, and the power of the Federal Government and its many agencies. Big Government stands in the way of our job creators, our businesses, our innovators and our families.
It is time to run our country like a business, to balance the budget, and return dividends back to its citizens.
I have had the good fortune to have had two successful wonderful careers, one with United Parcel Service and one in the legal profession. With UPS, I ran 9 business operations and we had to meet our budget each week, each month and each year. I have applied the same good sound business practices as the owner of my law firm these past 15 years, where I have also reviewed over 6000 business and individual budgets. I have also had the privilege of being a training manager at United Parcel Service, a part-time law professor at Regent University and have taught all ages of Sunday School classes in churches.
I believe it’s time for Virginia to elect a new leader in the Senate, who will have no agenda other than to serve our great country and to get America back on the right track. It’s time for a new Senator that will represent Virginians again and put its citizens first. A new Senator that will not compromise on good, commonsense, conservative principles. A new Senator that will have great respect and allegiance to our Constitution, principles of federalism, and our great heritage.
I believe I will make the case throughout the great state of Virginia that I am the best candidate for the Senate. .Along with bringing the many experiences of a 26-year business career, I plan to make a difference in Washington by bringing 4 time-honored values: Honesty, Efficiency, Accountability, and Thriftiness.
