Bearing Drift Poll: Greatest President Ever?
By | Monday, February 21st, 2011 | Catch-All

Today is President’s Day… and today we settle, for good and all, who represented the best of the American spirit and character…

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Traditional winners are Washington, Lincoln, and FDR… with Jefferson and Teddy Roosevelt quickly behind.  We’ll see how Bearing Drift 2011 readers fare with the national averages.  Enjoy, as I’m sure there will be a “Worst Presidents” poll coming shortly…

You put Jefferson’s pic up there just to spite me.

Where’s William Henry Harrison? He only served for 31 days, and was sick most of it. Must’ve been great.

Where’s Polk? Most successful one-term President in American history. And he left office by choice, not defeat.

I cast my vote for Harry Truman. Not that I expect him to win or personally think he was best, but because he should have been included in the choices to vote for. He’s definitely Top Ten.

FDR won the war and Harry won the peace that followed.

A Worst Presidents poll? Pass the peanuts.

  6. Brian Schoeneman February 21, 2011 10:43 am

I can’t believe that two people have chosen that weasel Wilson as the greatest President.

I was surprised that Teddy Roosevelt only had one votes. That said, I didn’t vote for him either, although I’d put him up there in the top five or six. I don’t understand why anybody thinks John Adams was any great shakes as president. Obviously, he had a great career up to that point, but his presidency wasn’t all that distinguished.

I kinda wanted to see what sort of boost he got from the book/HBO series.

And yeah… I had to put ol’ TJ up there. :)

    Jefferson is clearly the best.

  10. Brian W. Schoeneman February 21, 2011 13:48 pm

Jefferson is clearly in the bottom 5.

  11. Steve Vaughan February 21, 2011 15:16 pm

No way…the bottom five would be Carter, Bush II, Hoover, Grant, Buchanan…..Harding was pretty bad too, hate to leave him out.

  12. Steve Vaughan February 21, 2011 15:18 pm

    Oh, and Nixon.

  13. Brian W. Schoeneman February 21, 2011 15:21 pm

Okay, maybe not bottom five. Bottom ten. He’d be hanging out with Millard Fillmore and Wilson.

Bush II does not deserve to be in the bottom five. He’s solidly in the upper middle.

    @Brian

Your comment regarding the votes for Wilson was the single-greatest sentence you have ever written on Bearing Drift. Props. :)

George Washington first second and third. Who else knowing that everything he did would be cited as precedent would have behaved so selflessly and carefully? Who had less ego with all the adulation bestowed on him as his cabinet selections demonstrated? They and John Adams may have had more intellectual ability but none came close in wise judgment.

why is Woody Wilson even on this list?

  17. Kathy Mateer February 21, 2011 20:32 pm

Maybe this name will be added to the list in the future.

Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson equally popular (thus far) on a Virginia blog. Yep, I’ve seen everything.
