This past Thursday, the House of Delegates voted in the affirmative on Governor McDonnell’s request to cut funding for public broadcasting.
The main objections to this are coming from people claiming that the funding is spent on “educational” purposes. While thos may be true, there is a wide and quite extensive market for educational products, and it is not necessary for the government to directly subsidize a public educational outlet. The same services can be rendered without this outlet.
We will see what the Democratic Virginia Senate decides to do.
