Cuccinelli Correct, Says Politifact
By | Sunday, January 30th, 2011 | Policy

Conservatives are fond of saying that many EPA regulations are not about protecting the environment, rather they are about consolidating government control over private decisions.

Once in a while, someone in the mainstream media recognizes that conservatives actually have the facts to back up that claim. This week, Politifact rated Ken Cuccinelli’s statement to a Tea Party rally as

Cuccinelli said that the EPA’s auto emissions regulations related to its greenhouse gases endangerment finding would only reduce global temperatures by five one-hundredths of a degree by 2050. Turns out, that was a larger reduction than the EPA had claimed in its own documents.

In an email message today, Cuccinelli’s Political Director, Noah Wall said:

Let’s recap: The EPA wants to impose $950 per car in regulatory costs – to affect a change of, at most, .027 degrees Fahrenheit by the year 2100.

Cuccinelli has been a particularly strong critic of the EPA, even filing suit against the federal agency over regulations based on data he believes is flawed.

In other news, Japan’s Kirishima volcano erupted last week, spewing ashes up to 25,000 feet in the air. Unfortunately, EPA regulations were unable to reduce to prevent the eruption.

I’m no expert on the mainstream media but I find it hard to believe that Politifact is a leader in that domain. If it is then I expect the Wash Post and NY Times to pick it up and headline it. I also will anticipate seeing at least as many articles about this from the Post as they devoted to macaca. Not that I don’t appreciate any attempt at objectivity from those with a printing press or microphone. Usually however the disclaimer on the fallacious garbajj occurs in the last para or in a brief post that is never repeated.

If you wait for the NYT or any other of the mainstream media to report on anything that does not support the lefts government control agenda, then you will have to wait a very long time. As a retired weather forecaster, I do know that climate change is controlled by a huge nuclear furnace located some 93,000,000 miles away, and we have no control of the thermostat.

Perhaps if he stuck to the facts he would be correct mroe often. It is when his ideology trumps the facts that he gets into trouble and starts questioning global climate change, evolution, and academic freedom.

    Mike,

Don’t be bashful. It’s Global WARMING not global climate change. There is always global climate change and nobody questions that. Or is this just another instance of leftist ideology trumping facts and trying to be sneaky?

I guess since it the overwhelming consensus of scientists that global warming is occuring, that man pumping CO2 into the atmosphere is having a profound effect, that Hampton Roads faces effects sooner than most, that ships can now ply the Arctic Ocean, is reason for our AG to keep tilting at windmills. I don’t agree.
