Bearing Drift Poll: If The Election Were Held Today…
By | Sunday, January 23rd, 2011 | Politics

Another installment of Bearing Drift’s completely valid yet totally unscientific internet polls for the 2012 Virginia U.S. Senate nomination on the eve of George Allen’s announcement to run for his former U.S. Senate seat.  In the last poll, Jamie Radtke and George Allen tied at 26%, with Marshall at 15%, Mizusawa at 13%, and Cuccinelli at 12%.  Corey Stewart finished dead last at 2%

Interesting to see how the polling turns out with Cuccinelli out and Allen on a high note.

[poll id="39"]

Polls will remain open until all relevant IPs are logged and the voting slows.

    Bert Mizusawa for Senate!

  2. Joshua January 23, 2011 23:27 pm

Bert in first place? Is there something I don’t know or is it just because there has only been 28 votes so far?

Then again, to be honest I can’t say I know much about Mr. Mizusawa. Is he planning on running and, if so, what draws voters to him?

    Joshua –

There’s only 28 votes so far, but don’t be so surprised. Bert did run a very credible race in VA-02, and has plenty of friends in Northern Virginia.

Of course, I was surprised to see that Corey Stewart did not do as well in the first poll. My disagreements with him over illegal immigration notwithstanding, he’s a solid conservative.

I’m much more interested in here Cuccinelli’s support will go. Jamie has already pre-announced and been on national television, Marshall has been very high profile in the Assembly session already, to Corey who is already gearing up for re-election, or to Mizusawa (who has been quiet but active in his exploratory bid)?

…and then there’s former Governor George Allen making the big announcement.

Give it until tomorrow. It’s early yet.

  5. Shaun Kenney January 23, 2011 23:41 pm

…and see? 36 votes in, and Allen is back on top with Bert in #2.

Just wait until the Tea Parties catch wind of the poll…

  6. Craig Kilby January 24, 2011 00:33 am

So far, a huge yawn. I vote for none of the above.

  7. Shaun Kenney January 24, 2011 00:47 am

Draft Craig Kilby for US Senate!!!

    If not Craig, than who?

  10. Dr. Robert Marmorstein January 24, 2011 07:26 am

Can I vote for “anyone but Allen”? I like the man, but he seriously blew his last campaign and I don’t trust him to not do it again.

  11. Willie Deutsch January 24, 2011 08:16 am

I am very much a none of the above unless someone somehow impresses me. I still wish Forbes of Whittman would have run.

  12. Steve Vaughan January 24, 2011 09:43 am

Hmmmm, I’d wager that all the other candidates have much better name identification with Bearing Drift readers than they do with the general Republican electorate. In a multi-candidate primary, Allen wins in a walk based on name ID and money alone. If the “anybody but Allen” folks all get behind one candidate, then there’s a contest.

    SV –

…but you gotta admit, it’s a good barometer as to how the political junkies in Virginia really feel about it. Or at least the slacktivists online.

Interesting that Mizusawa is doing so well. Also interesting that neither Marshall or Stewart have beaten “other/undecided” so far, though I don’t expect that to last.

  15. JM January 24, 2011 12:41 pm

Interesting. It appears that the Cooch votes are going to Allen. That’s a big problem for Radtke.

  16. George Moody January 24, 2011 12:57 pm

Like his buddy Gilmore, Allen will lose again to a DemocRAT. I see Allen is what about 80% of the American people want “OUT” of Washington! Not only is Allen a part of the “good old boy” system (failures) in Virginia and Washington, here are 3 more reasons why (baggage) Allen will lose to Webb AGAIN! >>>>>> “Senator Allen stands by his comments”: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/28/AR2006092801835.html Well that made about 4000 Virginia Sons of Confederate veterans and their families mad at Allen AND “…positive ideas….>>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r90z0PMnKwI What a joke that was! AND bad shallow jokes like this?>>>>

  17. Britt Howard January 24, 2011 13:19 pm

You can say that JM, but I am a big Cuccinelli fan and I just voted Radtke. That said, I like Bert, but why even consider him until he jumps in officially? I want to see commitment. Jaimie Radtke will have a Tea Party network statewide to help. ANY candidate running as a Republican against the Democrat Senators will probably get plenty of funding attention. The atmosphere doesn’t bode well for the Dems.
I don’t care who you guys pick. Even if it is Allen, dumping Webb is an improvement.
    That simple.

It will get interesting when we see who attacks Radtke first, the Republicans or the Democrats! LOL Let’s see what the “Conservatives” do!

I believe it will be harder for the Old Guard Virginia GOP folks to attack a woman who headed the Virginia Tea Party to a successful Convention, one who now has some NATIONAL recognition because of it, and someone who is not a career politician (big plus), ETC! For the grassroots folks or other Virginia Conservatives to attack Radtke at this time, it will solidify Allen’s bid. But, Allen will not be able to completely FAKE (usual) his association with the Virginia Tea Party because of Radtke.

Like Marshall, Radtke will not be endorsed by the GOP in Virginia, and for that reason, I believe the GOP will lose again with Allen, just like they did with Gilmore when they snubbed Marshall.

The DemocRATS will note any “Divide” between the OLD GOP folks and the Tea Party and use it “to the hilt”.

Interesting politics! A little harder than just DemocRATS vs.RepubliCONS

  19. Shaun Kenney January 24, 2011 13:54 pm

    JM/Britt –

Keep in mind that today should be Allen’s best day. Still fascinated that (a) Mizusawa is in third and (b) Stewart is dead last. I really thought Corey had better statewide support…

  20. Samuel Gilleran January 24, 2011 14:52 pm

Shaun, I think your posts calling out Stewart for being insane on immigration might have had something to do with his lack of standing among BD readers.

  21. Coby W. Dillard January 24, 2011 15:03 pm

In this economy, all Stewart has is immigration. I agree with him, but that by itself ain’t gonna fly.

  22. Shaun Kenney January 24, 2011 15:08 pm

    @Samuel –

Never called him insane. But I appreciate that some folks may consider his position to be so.

  23. JM January 24, 2011 15:56 pm

Britt, What TEA party network? you mean Mark Lloyd and Karen Hurd? Word has it that Jamie cant even get HALF of the TEA party to support her. If Jamie cant get 80 to 90 percent (let alone 1/2) of the TEA Party, how does she plan on getting the nomination? Allen has 75% approval rating by gop primary voters (see ppp poll) disaproval is around 10 percent with rest undecided.

By the way, that “old guard” you mention is the only thing that kept Doug Wilder, Mary Sue Terry, Chuck Robb and Don Beyer from ruling this state a long time ago. Without Allen’s team runing the state, we voted for Obama. Thanks to the Jamie Radtke/Jeff Frederick nuts…

  24. marcus January 25, 2011 13:43 pm

@George Moody “It will get interesting when we see who attacks Radtke first, the Republicans or the Democrats”

Based on the last set of elections, the Democrats will probably be paying to send out mailers for her and funding her primary campaign.

  25. smiley January 25, 2011 19:27 pm

Jamie won’t be attacked by the Dems or Repubs first. It will be the Tea Party.

  26. George Moody January 26, 2011 14:55 pm

I really don’t think Allen has learned his lesson, and I know for a fact that he still, “stands by his words” when in comes to his attack during his last campaign on our honored Virginia legacy that he wiped his boots on! That and other comments, lost the election for him. He pandered to those who would not vote for him anyway! What a fool he was!
Allen’s kissing up to the Tea Party folks sure does look phony too. He’s what we want out of Washington!
    Help “drain the swamp”!

  27. Lester Gabriel January 27, 2011 03:26 am

Anyone who supports George Allen now (or will do so if he wins the Primary) need to tell him that he MUST get better advisors. All I can remember of the 2006 campaign were his incessant radio ads attacking Webb for something he had said 25 years earlier supposedly disparaging females in the military. That line certainly cost him more votes than it gained and meanwhile he was ignoring the highly successful Marriage Amendment fight that he should have been pushing throughout the campaign, not just the last couple of days.

  28. Britt Howard January 27, 2011 14:32 pm

JM, I don’t believe your less than 50% numbers.

Additionally, if you seriously think the lack of the Allen team was responsible for Virginia voting for Obama, you were watching the last term of Bush (his first term was great), and candidate McCain with rose colored glasses as you were chugging that kool-aid. Even if I disagree with you, I can normally understand why you might reach your conclusion. However, this point about VA going for Obama because of no Team Allen (that lost to the Democrat) is just unbelievable.
