Olbermann fired
By | Saturday, January 22nd, 2011 | Catch-All

Nah nah nah nah. Nah nah nah nah. Hey hey hey.

Goodbye!

Comcast buys NBC Universal, and MSNBC Keith Olbermann adds his name to the list of the unemployed since Barack Obama became President.

Olbermann’s ouster comes just three days after government officials gave clearance for Comcast Corp. to take over NBC Universal. Last May, Comcast Chairman Brian Roberts was asked what he would do, once he took over, if Olbermann badmouthed any Republican members of Congress.

“Let’s have that conversation in 12 months, when we’re playing with live ammo,” he said darkly.

Figures the New York Post would dig up that quote.

Is there hope for MSNBC now? Might they actually report the news and not just be shills for socialists?

Will “The Ed Show” be replaced with “Mr. Ed” – it would only require changing the end of the horse.

How about NBC as a whole? Is Matt Lauer going to have to be a journalist instead of a glib lib?

I don’t feel too sorry for Olbermann. His 30 million dollar contract will be paid to him. Funny how these “champions of the little guy” don’t mind being a zillion times wealthier than the “little guy.”

Bye Bye, Keith. There’s always public broadcasting.

But you better hurry!

About the author

Brian Kirwin

The right wants to jeer him. The left wants to censor him. Moderates usually want both. Brian Kirwin is a political consultant and public relations strategist in Virginia Beach with a lightning-rod flair. Brian also serves on the VB Arts & Humanities Commission and frequently appears on Hampton Roads theatrical stages, if only to prove that all actors aren’t liberals. Kirwin’s columns stir up debate and hit the political scene with no punches pulled.

As a long time stock holder of Comcast, I am going to guess that msnbc is next contestant for an extreme makeover. The board of Comcast will rub money on it and and a moderate/conservative genie might pop out.

Turbo, are you talking about Councilman Bill DeSteph?

Halloween costume joke. Sorry. Couldn’t resist……….

I do resent the slur on Mr Ed. Not only was he a good looking horse front and back, what he said was far more intelligent and honest than any politician. I’m sure the leftists would call him a hate monger and Nazi if he opened his mouth to them.

As for the limousine Dems, they have “earned” their elitism. Not only have they gone to the right schools, made the right friends, thought the correct thoughts, they have also made their money the correct way by looting the Treasury and acting as spokespersons for the people looting the Treasury. On behalf of the downtrodden you understand.

I agree Turbo. He’d be a far better mayor.

I welcome any improvement in the general quality of news, but I’m skeptical that this will happen at MSNBC. I think there is a certain amount of inertia to consider.

    Will Ophra hire Obermann?

MSNBC has good political coverage, which is why I watch it. Savannah Guthrie and Chuck Todd are two of the best in the business right now, and NBC’s news operation is second to none. Andrea Mitchell and Brian Williams are also good.

Their commentators are horrible. Dylan Ratigan is unwatchable. Ed Schultz, like Olbermann, is just a washed up sportscaster. He wants to act like he’s a regular blue collar guy, pro-labor and all, he hasn’t come close to being a working guy his whole life. His not qualified to be doing political commentary. Olbermann was the same – another washed up sports caster.

Mathews, Maddow and O’Donnell I can at least credit because Matthews and O’Donnell worked on the Hill and in politics and Maddow is an academic who has put the time in to earn her credentials.

This is not to say that the Fox News guys are any better, but I’m not a fan of most of the political commentary out there anyway. It’s vapid, lacks any real analysis, and most of these guys talk to hear themselves talk rather than to provide any legitimate information to their viewers, which I have always thought was the point of the news.

One less unqualified talking head on cable news is a win for us all.

Fox should hire LOLberman.. if there is one thing the leftstream advertisers want it is eyeballs of a wider audience and LOLberman on Fox would turn left wingers stomachs but they would tune into Fox News to find their spiritual leader. This would boost ad revenue.. and ruin Fox.. ok, bad idea. Never mind.
