Rewarding Roundup
By | Thursday, January 20th, 2011 | Catch-All

One of the reasons I don’t write as much as I’d like is because I’m too busy enjoying other people’s creativity.

Here’s a sampling of what’s been showing up on my screen…

Monday, we remembered the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who opined: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” NRO observes a silent injustice, or if not silent, an injustice that is barely mentioned anywhere.

Within the Muslim world today are regimes, movements, and individuals convinced that their religion justifies — and benefits from — the most heinous atrocities. They are determined, ruthless, and lethal — as Christians and other minorities across a broad swath of the world have been finding out.

Here’s the question that’s relevant for all Virginians: if we don’t speak against injustice, who will?

Our own Ken Cuccinelli made Slate’s list of Ten Conservatives who will Define 2011. Yup, this is the Slate magazine that accused Virginia voters of “political backsliding” for electing Cuccinelli in the first place. Who woulda thunk?

This one’s making the rounds. Whether you like her or not, you should appreciate the skilled humor in this tribute to our favorite Mama Grizzley.

How much has changed in the last three years? Atlantic monthly has a chart for that:

Six more states have now joined in the Florida lawsuit against Obamacare. So, Virginia sued first; then Florida, which is now joined by 24 other states. I’m not a math whiz, but I think that makes a majority of all states now questioning the Constitutionality of the individual mandate.

Red State blogger Ben Domenech admits to being a “squish.” Go ahead, read his confession and then answer his question.

In a recent attempt at triangulation, President Obama has ordered the foxes to carefully guard the hen-house. Problem is, when Bill Clinton used this strategy, he actually worked across the aisle with the other party and crafted successful legislation that would save taxpayers billions and move nearly two-thirds of welfare recipients into the workforce. Obama has merely issued an executive order giving all federal agencies six months to come up with a plan to review their own regulations and suggest ones which might be burdensome to business and be should be eased. Meanwhile, House Republicans have a different idea: require Congressional approval of any new regs with an annual economic impact of $100 million or more.

Former George W Bush speechwriter, Bill McGurn, presents a truly shocking statistic: for every 2 African-American babies born in New York City, 3 were aborted. If abortion ought to be “safe, legal and rare,” can’t we all agree that’s a few too many abortions?
