Oh, the Irony: IRS “Emancipation Day”
By Ward Smythe | Tuesday, January 4th, 2011 | PolicyThe Wall Street Journal reports that “The Internal Revenue Service Tuesday announced that in this 2011 tax filing season, taxpayers will have until Monday, April 18, to file their 2010 tax returns.”
No, apparently the IRS hasn’t proclaimed “Emancipation Day.” The District of Columbia celebrates the real Emancipation Day on April 15, which this year happens to fall on a Friday. The law dicates that IRS tax deadlines be adjusted according to DC holidays.
But, am I the only one who sees the irony of the celebration of the freeing of the slaves falling on the same day that symbolizes how the IRS enslaves us all?
