It’ll be ok, liberals. You don’t have to be so angry.
By JR Hoeft | Thursday, December 16th, 2010 | Catch-AllOK. I admit it. I got sucked in to “the politics of personal destruction” yesterday when I mentioned and linked to a post that spoke about a candidate’s private life. It was a bit of overkill, especially given the lead the Republican has over the Democrat. There really was no need.
That being said, I wonder why every post I read written by some self-proclaimed progressives have to use an adjective to describe Republicans? Such anger, such bitterness.
Let’s look at a quick sampling from one of the state’s leading “progressive” blogs:
Cuccinelli is a “Grand Inquisitor”
McDonnell is “Pat Robertson’s Manchurian Candidate”
Republicans are “Repugs”
A U.S. Senator is a “scumbag”
George Allen is “Orwellian”
And on, and on, and on…
Is this really blogging, or just frustration with Democratic party inadequacy?
Quite frankly, all this name-calling hasn’t changed the fact that Democrats got “shellacked” in 2009 here in Virginia and 2010 nationally.
In many ways, I feel really bad for liberals. They want to advance their agenda so very badly, they even try gimmicks.
But even the Democrats themselves can be too conservative for these libs.
It must be extremely frustrating for them to have a “Republican-turned Democrat-turned Republican-turned Democrat” for U.S. Senator and another one who claims to be a “radical centrist”. They must hate the fact that the state senate did balance the budget last year under the leadership of Governor Bob McDonnell and Virginia House Republicans. I’m sure they can’t stand that we actually have a Lieutenant Governor who is creating jobs in the commonwealth. And, I know it drives them batty that we have an Attorney General who promotes “liberty” and personal responsibilty, vice statism and collectivism.
It’s ok, my liberal friends. These things are cyclical. At some point, “progressives” might achieve some success, and you can smile again. In the meantime, enjoy the ride you’ll get under Republican leadership.

Watch out, J.R.! Lowell’s going to sue you for defamation for mentioning him on your blog!
I didn’t mention Lowell specifically, Brian. But it is clear you have done some research.
Why is it that this kind of vitriol seems to reside more heavily on the left than on the right? Granted, we have our angry contingents, too, but they seem to be vastly outnumbered by the sane conservatives, like us. Does it have something to do with the Judeo-Christian roots of conservative thought (which values the inherent dignity of the individual)? I, too, feel sorry for liberal progressives who believe they are fighting a war of all against all. Their world must be very lonely.
Grand Inquisitor?
The Inquisition?
Someone must have had a McSnark Burger for lunch.
JR,
I have noticed the same thing, but thought that it might be my imagination. Do you suppose that this phenomenon is related in any way to the fact that liberals are so much smarter and better educated than Rethugs?
NO ONE SUSPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!!!
Hmmmm……..
*Taps the Grand Inquisitor on the shoulder*
*Then points at Christine O’Donnel*
Well………..she did confess already…….
