Thought for the day
By | Wednesday, November 24th, 2010 | Catch-All

I went and raked leaves from my yard this week and cleaned out the gutters.

Today, there are thousands of them on my yard and in my gutters.

Today’s thought: what would happen if I left it?

Part of me thinks the ecosystem would be very happy.

    Nice try, JR.

I’ve tried pulling the no-yardwork-to-help-the-environment routine too.

Wives see through it pretty quickly.

Well, as my grandmother used to say, “God put the leaves there, and God will take them away.” She was very much a naturalist and probably way ahead of her time.

Decided that a new prayer for today’s feast that I am hosting would be in order.

    Our Father in Heaven,
We give thanks for the pleasure
Of gathering together for this occasion.
We give thanks for this food
    Prepared by loving hands.
    We give thanks for life,
The freedom to enjoy it all
    And all other blessings.
As we partake of this food,
We pray for health and strength
To carry on and try to live as You would have us.
This we ask in the name of Christ,
    Our Heavenly Father.

Those leaves make great compost in Kents Store…

Schoeneman is right though — wives see through it pretty quickly. Yah, mule!

Reminds me of a joke Reagan used to tell about a gardener who was showing the local Reverend his fine garden, and the Reverend said “The Good Lord has blessed you. Thanks and praise to the Lord for such fine reward. The Lord is indeed good and wonderous” and on and on.

Finally, the gardener said “Excuse me, Reverend, but you should have seen the mess this was when the Lord was doing it himself.”

J.R.: The ecosystem would thank you. Your wife and neighbors? Not so much.
