Bristol Palin and the Tea Party Vote
By Ward Smythe | Friday, November 19th, 2010 | Catch-All
So, the fact that Bristol Palin is not the most talented dancer on Dancing With the Stars (not that I would know because I don’t watch the show), but now her continued success is a Tea Party conspiracy?
Google “Bristol Palin” and “Dancing with the Stars” and you’ll get these headlines.
Brandy edged out by Bristol for ‘Dancing With the Stars’ finale
Chicago Sun Times
A flawless tango was no match for the gumption of a show-biz novice as “Dancing With the Stars” viewers decided Tuesday that Bristol Palin belongs in the finals.
‘Dancing With the Stars’ producer defends Bristol Palin: ‘I’m very confident that the votes that are getting through are valid.’
Entertainment Weekly
Conrad Green, executive producer of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, is “mystified” by this week’s Bristol Palin vs. Brandy brouhaha. Green called EW to address rumors of a so-called Tea Party conspiracy designed to help Bristol Palin advance into Monday’s season 11 finals.
Conservatives respond: Bristol Palin is not dancing with the tea party
Los Angeles Times
In between hearty laughs, Dawn Wildman, co-coordinator of the California Tea Party Patriots, dismissed the idea of an organized coalition to get the dancing competition’s mirror ball trophy in Palin’s young hands.
And don’t miss this from the emminently non-biased MSNBC.
How the ‘Dancing’ vote was hacked
Having Palin tear up the dance floor on national TV is considered a boost for the conservative Tea Party movement. To keep the votes coming in, the party is using social media effectively to rally the base behind the young Palin mom.
This is all rather amusing really. It’s not like a no talent, unqualified individual has ever been voted for by the left just because of popularity.
Assuming of course that you rule out the 2008 election.
This from MSNBC is priceless:
The pro-Palin groundswell is reportedly leading ABC to consider changing its voting system to give more weight to the judges’ assessment — and less weight to the voice of the people.
It’s just like the health care vote.
And these people think the birthers are nuts?

Yeppers, gotta love that vast Tea Party conspiracy!
Maybe people just like voting for the underdog?
I, like you, have never watched the show (I’m not a broadcast TV type girl), so I really wouldn’t know, but I do find it amusing that Bristol’s staying power is driving the Palin haters loopy.

Dancing starts at 1:45
Ward,
I hate to be contrary here, but I’m afraid that the reports are true. Here are two Palin web sites that urge reader to vote for Bristol and even display the phone number and code for the convenience of those who don’t even watch the show. Additionally, there is a conservative talk show host who is urging his followers to vote for her on his Twitter account. He has 14,000 followers.

Now then, about that birth certificate…
HisRoc…so?
Tell me another “talent competition” that hasn’t had similar campaigns? That’s simply the way those shows work. Sure there are fans out there that will encourage folks to vote for Bristol. That’s not the story.
But it’s laughable to think that this is an orchestrated Tea Party campaign.
Ward,
Could you be so kind as to point us to other third party web sites that are soliciting votes for other DWTS contestants. Sorry that I can’t give you specific names of the contestants–I’ve never watched the show. Note that I did not cite Bristol’s own web site or her Facebook page; I would expect any contestant to be promoting themselves. But in Bristol’s case there are political web sites and blogs operated by third parties who are promoting her. That smacks to me of a campaign with a political agenda.
Be honest–if Al Gore was on DWTS and HuffPost, Daily Kos, et al were encouraging people to vote for him, you would be all over it like stink on poo-poo.
As for “an orchestrated Tea Party campaign,” the Tea Party itself maintains that it is not an orchestrated political party, but a political movement.
Actually, HisRoc, I don’t care enough about the show to be all over it. What I’m pointing out is the hypocrisy of the left and Hollywood at getting all upset over this.
And, while not DWTS, I’ve been targeted to vote in at least one American Idol campaign and one Great American Sing-Off campaign.
If any of you had ever seen the show, you wouldn’t have too much doubt that something, other than dancing ability, odd explains why she’s still on the show.
