“Voting irregularities” abound in 11th District
By | Friday, November 5th, 2010 | Politics

If Keith Fimian ends up losing to Gerry “Boss” Connolly in the 11th, next election cycle the mantra could be “Re-defeat Connolly in 2012!”

This just in from Fairfax County Republican Committee Chairman Anthony Bedell (take special notice to the second point):

-In Fairfax County, the voting machines failed to register votes from over 800 ballots, including 106 in the Sideburn precinct alone. (Keith Fimian won that precinct 58% – 40%.) In Prince William County, the machines failed to register votes on more than 200 additional ballots.

-In several precincts, there were actually more votes than voters. That is, voting machines reported a higher number of votes than the number of voters marked on the pollbooks as having voted in the election.

-As of Election Day, there were over 1,150 absentee ballots that had been mailed out to military and other overseas voters but had yet to be received back in the 11th Congressional District.

-We also understand that officials in Prince William County rejected over 280 absentee ballots, with another 200-300 absentee ballots being rejected in Fairfax County.

“Irregularites”? Not registering ballots and more votes than actual voters… I’d call that just a tad more serious than “irregularities”. According to the Election Tracker from Fox News, that was a really close race. I think an independent third party should conduct a recount. Then there’d be no question of who really won.

It never ceases to amaze me that the party which claims its message resonates with a majority of the public often seems to win close elections by highly questionable means. Here’s hoping someone takes these allegations very seriously and they are investigated thoroughly to ensure the credibility of the vote.

Those allegations if true are serious. However they SHOULD be uncovered in a canvass and recount. Remember who controls all electoral boards by a 2-1 majority (Hint:its not the party that lost the last governor’s race)

It is bad enough when dead Democrats vote but what really bothers me is when dead Republicans start voting for Democrats that is really bad.

These are very serious allegations, regardless of whether they are leveled against a Democrat or a Republican. The core integrity of our democracy is at stake here.

It has been a article of faith among liberals for ten years now that Republicans stole the 2000 election in Florida, despite numerous reliable investigative news reports that have documented that Bush won. We need to demand a thorough investigation into these charges and put it to rest immediately if the allegations turn out to be unfounded. We cannot let these charges develop a life of their own and become an urban legend that forever casts doubt on the validity of our elections. Even worse, we can’t have Republicans tinkering with ballots in the future because they think that the Democrats did it and got away with it.

Is anyone really seriously suggesting that the Republican controlled Electoral Boards are stealing an election for Gerry Connolly?

  9. JR Hoeft November 6, 2010 07:59 am

If that’s what you choose to believe, NLS, so be it. I think the suggestion is that there are voting irregularities and that the electorate deserves answers and a fair election. Is everything a partisan issue with you?

NLS: the local electoral boards WILL become Republican controlled once the Dem appointees roll off each board.

NLS, you mentioned on your blog or twitter than you went to the canvass in your area. I went to the Lunenburg canvass (& had been to the Nottoway canvasses years ago).

I think the local officials are hard-working & want to do the right thing. it is a mind-numbing job. There are a zillion checks & balances to get everything legal. (except the SBE lets college students vote where their school is yet also vote at home).

here is where I could see a problem: a machine starts to mess up or one of the officials forgets to re-set machine after each vote or something like this. These matters can be corrected; they can be explained. However, they need to be addressed immediately as they happen. Perhaps the officials are embarrassed so they don’t say anything.

Even with all the checks in this system, it is still fraught for potential for human error & laziness.

    See TPP’s “TRUE-the-VOTE- A Petition Invoking the State Governor’s Obligation ” at http://teapartypatriots.ning.com/group/IssuesPetitionsOnStateGovernors

Then click “Virginia” or your state. Thanks.
