Scott Rigell’s campaign manager Jason Miyares explains the excitement that comes with such a large freshmen class, reforming Congress and making the tax pledge, when he thinks the campaign turned in their favor, and when he was confident the race was won.
The, we listen in a on press conference where the congressman-elect outlines some of the core principles that will guide him in representing the district and Virginia in the United States House of Representatives.
Much of the conference was about his 8 congressional reforms, which were first released to the public on BearingDrift. We do not have any audio on that, instead, we focus on his response to reporters’ questions.
Rigell discussed the importance of going to Washington with a core, conservative conviction of wrangling the Federal debt and what might happen to the GOP if they don’t.
He also spoke about how he thinks the GOP winning will restore confidence to entrepreneurs and small business owners. And noted how he, as the 2nd District rep, must be a tireless advocate for the military.
He mentioned that the first group of people he will seek to meet with are military leaders over the potential closing of Joint Forces Command, but explained to reporters how being a budget hawk and an advocate for the district are not mutually exclusive.
Our final clip comes from an amusing moment of the press conference between political commentator Andy Fox and Rigell. Needless to say, the congressman-elect was stunned. I don’t know if amusing is the right word here…maybe in a cynical sort of way. In many respects, it’s actually very sad that a reporter thinks this way.
